1. Two Paper Town
Two Paper Town

I remember when this was a two paper town
A big company came in and shut one of them down
Now all that we get is one point of view
And it don't really matter which side you're on
Nobody wins when our choices are gone
Both sides of a story often lead to the truth

Well maybe I'm crazy maybe it's no big deal
It's just my opinion it's just how I feel

I dream of a world that's not all the same
Where freedom is more than a word that we say
Where you say what you think and no one would dare put you down
I dream of a world that's a two paper town

I used to eat lunch at a small sandwich shop
Now there's a neon chain across that parking lot
They said we could have it our way so that's what we did
There's a superstore out by the interstate
I get my shirts and my tires and my eggs in one place
I guess it's convenient it is what it is

We save a few dollars but what is the cost
If they don't know your name seems like something is lost

I dream of a world that's not all the same
Where a man with a vision can still find a way
Where the little guy says to the big boys you can't shut me down
I dream of a world that's a two paper town

Somewhere in the third world a man drinks the same soda as me
Funny we're further than ever from mankind living in peace

I dream of a world where though we're not all the same
Freedom is more than a word that we say
Where you can say what you think and no one would dare put you down
I dream of a world that's a two paper town
2. Recipe for Insanity
Recipe for Insanity

Troubled teenage runaway
Greyhound station, rainy day
She's gonna make her parents pay
For that hole she can't fill up
Left behind a trail of tears
Feelin' old beyond her years
Pride and anger brought her here
Left her starvin' for love
In her mind she's mixin' up

Three parts regret, two cups of sorrow
A tablespoon of guilt with the bitter taste of shame
She's leavin' out forgiveness and hope for tomorrow
Throwin' in a dash of fear and a pinch or two of blame
That's a recipe for insanity

Mom and dad glued to the telephone
Ten months of wonderin' where they went wrong
You reach a point where life goes on
Still they're not givin' up
Chicken pot pie is his favorite dish
Mom's standin' in the kitchen fixin' it
There's something else she'd rather fix
There's no end to a mother's love
In her mind she's mixin' up

Three parts regret, two cups of sorrow
A tablespoon of guilt with the bitter taste of shame
She's leavin' out forgiveness and hope for tomorrow
Throwin' in a dash of fear and a pinch or two of blame
That's a recipe for insanity

One night the phone rings two am
She says can I come home again
You just tell us where and when
And baby we'll come pick you up
Yeah they got some patchin' up to do
They're about to face some painful truth
But something tells me they'll make it through
With the helping hands of love
They'll be mixing up

Three parts joy, two cups of understanding
A tablespoon of tenderness with the sweet taste of trust
They'll throw in some forgiveness and hope for tomorrow
Tears will turn to laughter and all blame will turn to dust
That's a remedy for insanity
That's a recipe, more or less, for happiness
3. My America
My America

It's hard to read the paper these days
It's tough to watch the news
This country looks like a different place than the one I thought I knew
'Tween the bottom line and corporate greed
The loss of civil liberties
The rising cost of everything
So many cast aside
It's like the dream has died

In my America everybody would be free
In my America nobody would ever go hungry, have to fight for a little peace
Or wake up shivering on a slab of cold concrete. In my America

They sell fear on the radio
Sex and violence on TV
We just watch and listen till it's what we think we need
Now everything's disposable
From plastic to people
It's gonna take a miracle
To save us from ourselves
Can you hear the warning bell
In my America in the name of our children's children
We'd be colorin' our lives green
Recycling love and kindness using way less gasoline
In my America

Could my America be your America could your America be

my America everybody would be free
There'd be a choir for every voice
There'd be a door for every wall
You could worship any God you want or no God at all
There'd be a lot more conversation
We'd be way less polarized
We'd replace this hate and anger with hope and love and compromise
In my America
In my America
In my America
4. Sure Looks Like Love
Sure Looks Like Love

Beneath the smile of a Manhattan moon
They met while dancin' to a Sinatra tune
He held her tight, then they took a ride
In a horse drawn carriage
Now she's 83 and he's 85
And after 60 years of marriage

They hold hands and they kiss
When they're apart they miss each other
They made plans, it's like this
Together they'll always be
Sure looks like love to me

A Nebraska high school, 1988
He couldn't find the courage to ask her for a date
Then she left town and he settled down
Gotta hand it to our creator
Cause here they are, together now
Two divorces and five kids later

REPEAT CHORUS

You never know who your soul mate might be

She still hasn't met her fiancé's folks
They don't bless this union, they're not even gonna go
Still on June 1st at a little church
They'll be joined in matrimony
In God's eyes they'll be recognized
If for this reason only

5. As a Friend
As a Friend

As a friend I have to tell you
It's killin' me to watch you kill yourself
As a friend I know you well enough
To know you're too proud to ask for help
Still I'm here, I'm here as a friend

When we were kids we were like brothers
Nobody's fault, we just drifted apart
Remember that pledge, if one of us was in trouble
I guess you could say I took those words to heart
That's why I'm here, I'm here as a friend

CHORUS

As a friend I will not turn my back on you
But I will not back down from the God's honest truth
You have a problem and it's not gonna end
Till you put down that bottle and start livin' life again
You can love me you can hate me but I came here and I'll leave here as a friend

You keep sayin' that's it's over, you've already lost it all
Well I'm here to tell you that could change with one phone call
There's a meeting just down the street
It's the one I go to three times a week
6. Love is All That Matters
Love is All That Matters

There I am sittin' on my grandma's steps
Wonderin' what trouble I could get in next
A freckle-faced kid with a snow cone smile
Not a worry in the world

Would you look at my mom in that big yellow hat
What was she thinkin' wearin' somethin' like that
I still remember her tryin' to fix my hair
Like I was her little girl

CHORUS
A simple photograph
A memory in black and white
That always makes me laugh or makes me cry
An eight by ten reminder
That time is such a precious thing
That life is always movin' us along
And love is all that matters when we're gone

A year after that was taken we pulled up roots
Had to leave behind the only world I knew
Me with my little nose pressed against the glass
As our rambler rolled away

I called my grandma every Sunday night
Made those nine hundred miles almost seem all right
She'd say, "I'll see ya next summer, I can hardly wait"
But that summer never came

REPEAT CHORUS

I've been starin' at this picture for fifteen minutes
Wonderin' what happened to that little boy in it
The freckle-faced kid with the snow cone smile
Not a worry in the world

Now I'm late for a meeting that started at eight
Gonna pick up the phone and tell 'em not to wait
Gonna run upstairs and put my arms around
My wife and my little girl

REPEAT CHORUS
7. Somebody Taught 'Em
Somebody Taught 'Em

by Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

Black boy white boy fightin' in the school yard
Their silent rage has come to a head
One said somethin' 'bout the color of the other
Now both of those boys are bleedin' red
Go back in time ten years ago
Two newborn babies as sweet as can be
You can blame the parents you can blame the school
I don't have the answer but it occurs to me

CHORUS:
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
Those little angels had no hate in their bones
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones

Husband and wife standin' in the kitchen
Carryin' on a war of words
Kids at the table starin' at their plates
Tryin' to ignore what they just heard
Go back in time to mom and dad's upbringing
And it's no surprise how they communicate
It's a circle of sorrow it's a vicious cycle
We learn by example and then we imitate

Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
They didn't grow up in a home sweet home
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones

BRIDGE:
It's gonna take fathers and mothers
Sisters and brothers
And a whole lotta help from above
Callin' all teachers and preachers
And all of our heroes
To teach our children to love

Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
Guess all I can do is start with my own
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
8. Fightin' a War
Fightin' a War

Every morning he wakes up to the sound of bombs in the sky
Waiting it out in a bunker he wonders if he's gonna get out alive
He signed up for the National Guard and we ended up in a war
Now he's doing his duty servin' his country and he'll never question what for
He feels so alone

Every morning she wakes up to three kids and a job she just got
Should she pay the phone bill, the visa, the mastercard, the questions never stop
Like why did our daddy have to leave us, when will he be comin' back
She gives them a hug instead of an answer cause she can't answer that
She feels so alone
He's fightin' a war over there, she's fightin' a war at home

Every night he writes her a letter, reads one she's written to him
He kisses the envelope, thinks what a struggle this is for both of them
Every night she stares at his picture, sleeps on his side of the bed
Hopin' that knock on the door never comes, hopin' that in the end
She won't be alone
He's fightin' a war over there she's fightin' a war at home

He grew up thinking killin' is wrong, said he'd never fire a gun
She stares at the sky, she never thought
She'd be prayin' he knows how to use one

Today he had a close call took some shrapnel in his leg
For a month he's tradin' the battlefield for a hospital bed
It's 2 am, the telephone rings, she whispers please let it be him
He says hello, and just for a moment there's peace for both of them
They don't feel so alone
He's fightin' a war over there she's fightin' a war at home
9. Whatever
Whatever

I hear one in five high school kids can hardly read or write
Forty years after the march on Selma there's still walls 'tween blacks and whites
In the richest nation on this earth, people go to bed hungry at night
Whatever, there's a part of me that says
Whatever

There's a hole in the ozone as big as Tennessee
The rivers are polluted, fish are full of mercury
And mother nature's cryin', don't cut down another tree
Whatever, you hear it everyday
Whatever, maybe it's time to say

Whatever it takes there's so much at stake
We've gotta find a way to work together
Despite our different points of view
The enemy is apathy
Hey I'm rollin' up my sleeves
Whatever it takes I'll Do

Theres liberals and conservatives and everything in between
democrats and republicans and no one's nose is clean
And half of us don't even vote in the land of the free
Whatever, is getting' us nowhere
Whatever, it's not too late to care

Whatever it takes there's so much at stake
We've gotta find a way to work together
Despite our different points of view
The enemy is apathy
Hey I'm rollin' up my sleeves
I'm gonna dig me a ditch and put all my fear and prejudice in it
I'm gonna open my mind, open my heart and let love lead me

Whatever it takes there's so much at stake
We've gotta find a way to work together
Despite our different points of view
The enemy is apathy
Hey I'm rollin' up my sleeves
Whatever it takes I'll do
10. Everyday Heroes
Everyday Heroes

She gets there every morning
An hour before the bell
Puts a problem on the blackboard
And a dozen words to spell
For twenty years and counting
She's been trying change the world
One kid at a time
And to all those boys and girls

CHORUS
She's/she's an everyday hero
Won't make the history books
We barely give 'em a second look
But she does it anyway
Ordinary people
Who can't seem to do enough
Do it all in the name of love
With a quiet grace
Everyday heroes are heroes every day

He works up at the center
He's a weekend volunteer
Answerin' the hotline
Always there to lend an ear
Most of us, God willing,
Won't ever have to call
But to all those souls in trouble
With their backs against the wall

REPEAT CHORUS

Take the keys from a friend who's drinking
Read a story to a kid
Call your mom and tell her you love her
You'll be glad you did

Be an everyday hero
You won't make the history books
You won't get a second look
But do it anyway
Ordinary people
Can't seem to do enough
Do it all in the name of love
With a quiet grace
Everyday heroes are heroes every day
11. I'm Done
I'm Done

So life hit me when I wasn't lookin'
So it dealt me a hard hand to play
I felt betrayed and forsaken
But I've been makin' the wrong people pay
I'm done I'm done

I've spent my last night in that prison
Where anger and pride were the bars
Hey I'm here to tell you I'm makin' peace with the past
And I'm not ashamed of my scars
But I'm done

CHORUS
I'm done harboring grudges and nursing old wounds
Done clinging to crutches and singin' the blues
I'm done pointing fingers at everyone else
I'm taking a long hard look at myself
A new day has begun
I'm done

I called up somebody who'd hurt me
And we finally settled that score
I had a right to be bitter revenge would've been sweet
But forgiveness is what ended that war

I'm starting to see the big picture
These days I'm getting' high off of that
No more killing my pain with a 3 day binge
That train has run outta track
I'm done

REPEAT CHORUS

I'm spending more time with the people I love
The ones who will cry at my funeral
I'm done feeling hopeless no I'm not goin' there
I'm greeting each morning with a smile and a prayer
A new day has begun a new day has begun a new day has begun
12. Dear David's Dad
Dear David's Dad

Dear David's dad
He asked me to help him write you this letter
To tell you he's train' hard not to be sad
But he misses you so much when you're away

He seems to understand
That in your line of work you have to travel
Still he seems kind of quiet and keeps to himself
But it's nothing to worry about, he'll be ok

And, oh he wants you to know
This morning at recess he hurt his finger
That his hamster got loose and he doesn't like girls
And he'll finish his numbers by the end of the day

And you should be proud of your little man
In case you didn't know it, he's your biggest fan

Along with this note
I'm sending a picture he drew you last Friday
The two figures together are him and your wife
And that's you in the distance standing alone

Well, the bell just rang
It's time to take all the kids out to the playground
When you get back I'd sure like to meet you
By the way, I'm the new kindergarten teacher
And there's just one more thing he wants me to say
Daddy, hurry home

13. One Drop of Water
One Drop of Water

Another 12 hour day working as a seamstress in Montgomery
She climbed aboard a bus
There was nobody sitting there when she took that seat
Said I'm not getting up
An ordinary act of courage that sparked a revolution
She wasn't trying to be a problem just part of a solution

She was one drop of water in an ocean of hope
One voice of reason who finally spoke
If we're ever gonna get along if peace is our desire
We're never gonna get there fightin' fire with fire
She was one drop of water
One drop of water

He called himself a common man not a hero not a saint
He knew war just leads to war
He fought for freedom the nonviolent way
A cause worth dying for
He believed that we can change the world with quiet dignity
Hundreds grew to thousands when he marched down to the sea

He was one drop of water in an ocean of hope
One voice of reason who finally spoke
If we're ever gonna get along if peace is our desire
We're never gonna get there fightin' fire with fire
He was one drop of water
One drop of water

You can wage a war with words or weapons
Pray for peace or make it happen

I wanna be one drop of water in an ocean of hope
One voice of reason who finally spoke
If we're ever gonna get along if peace is our desire
We're never gonna get there fightin' fire with fire
I wanna be one drop of water
Let me be one drop of water
I'm gonna be one drop of water
In an ocean of hope
14. Something Real
Something Real

I used to worship the almighty dollar
I thought it would fill this hole in me and I'd be satisfied
I was a thirsty man dying for water
Drinkin' from a well that always left me dry

CHORUS:
I'm lookin' for something I can really sink my teeth into
Something that shakes my soul and makes me really feel
Yeah what I'm lookin' for
All I want anymore
Is something deep, something ancient, something righteous
Something real

I'm tired of all the shallow conversations
Meaningless noise in a fast food world
Where's the heart and the true inspiration
I won't stand for mediocrity or artificial pearls

CHORUS

BRIDGE:
It all comes down to love
For yourself, for your family and your friends
By the grace of God above
Let's get down to the things that matter

CHORUS

1. Life's a Dance
Life's a Dance

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

WHEN I WAS FOURTEEN I WAS FALLIN' FAST
FOR A BLUE EYED GIRL IN MY HOMEROOM CLASS
TRYIN’ TO FIND THE COURAGE TO ASK HER OUT
WAS LIKE TRYIN’ TO FIND OIL FROM A WATER SPOUT
WHAT SHE WOULD HAVE SAID I CAN’T SAY
I NEVER DID ASK, SHE MOVED AWAY
BUT I LEARNED SOMETHIN' FROM MY BLUE EYED GIRL
SINK OR SWIM YOU’VE GOTTA GIVE IT A WHIRL

CHORUS:
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO
SOMETIMES YOU LEAD, SOMETIMES YOU FOLLOW
DON’T WORRY ‘BOUT WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO

THE LONGER I LIVE THE MORE I BELIEVE
YOU DO HAVE TO GIVE IF YOU WANNA RECEIVE
THERE’S A TIME TO LISTEN, A TIME TO TALK
AND YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CRAWL EVEN AFTER YOU WALK
I’VE HAD SURE THINGS BLOW UP IN MY FACE
SEEN THE LONG SHOT WIN THE RACE
BEEN KNOCKED DOWN BY THE SLAMMIN’ DOOR
PICKED MYSELF UP AND CAME BACK FOR MORE

REPEAT CHORUS

DON’T WORRY ‘BOUT WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO
2. April's Dad
April's Dad

By Steve Seskin and Don Samson

APRIL AND HER MOTHER HAVE TO MAKE IT ON THEIR OWN
ONE WORKS TWO JOBS AND ONE IS MUCH TOO YOUNG TO LEAVE ALONE
HER FATHER LEFT THEM BOTH FOR GOOD THE FIRST TIME THINGS GOT BAD
SO THEY HAD TO LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER WITHOUT APRIL'S DAD

APRIL'S SUCH A PRETTY GIRL SHE HAS HER MOTHER'S EYES
I LOVE TO SEE THEM LAUGHIN’ AND IT HURTS ME WHEN THEY CRY
I FELL IN LOVE WITH BOTH OF THEM I GUESS I GOT IT BAD
'CAUSE TONIGHT I'M ASKING APRIL'S MOM, "CAN I BE APRIL'S DAD?"

CHORUS:
I WANNA SING TO HER EACH MORNING READ HER STORIES EVERY NIGHT
AFTER SHE IS SOUND ASLEEP I’LL HOLD HER MAMA TIGHT
I’M GONNA BE THE TRUEST LOVER HER MOTHER EVER HAD
AND I'LL ALWAYS DO THE BEST I CAN AT BEIN' APRIL'S DAD

WE TALKED ABOUT FOREVER, FOR BETTER AND FOR WORSE
SHE SAID, "BEFORE I SAY 'I DO' CAN I ASK APRIL FIRST?"
WE WOKE HER UP TOGETHER AND SAT DOWN ON HER BED
SHE WIPED THE SLEEP OUT OF HER EYES AND THIS IS WHAT SHE SAID

SHE SAID, "I NEVER KNEW MY DADDY, BUT I KNOW HE WENT AWAY
MY MAMA SMILES WHEN YOU'RE AROUND HERE AND YOU KNOW FUN GAMES TO PLAY
I'D LOVE IF YOU'D COME LIVE WITH US YEAH THAT WOULD MAKE ME GLAD."
NOW IT'S APRIL AND HER MOTHER AND APRIL'S BRAND NEW DAD

I’M GONNA SING TO HER EACH MORNING READ HER STORIES EVERY NIGHT
AND AFTER SHE IS SOUND ASLEEP I’LL HOLD HER MAMA TIGHT
I’M GONNA BE THE TRUEST LOVER HER MOTHER EVER HAD
AND I'LL ALWAYS DO THE BEST I CAN AT BEIN' APRIL'S DAD
3. Michaelangelo
Michaelangelo

By Steve Seskin and Georgia Middleman

I SAW THIS KID IN NEW YORK CITY
ON 42ND STREET
USING COLORED CHALK ON A SIDEWALK CANVAS
HE WAS DRAWIN' A MASTERPIECE
AS A CROWD GATHERED 'ROUND TO APPLAUD HIS WORK
A POLICEMAN CAME BY AND ACTED LIKE A JERK
HE SAID, "THIS IS PUBLIC PROPERTY
"AND YOU'VE GOT FIVE MINUTES TO ERASE THAT THING." I THOUGHT

CHORUS:
I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU GO TELL THAT TO MICHAELANGELO
TELL HIM HE CAN PAINT HIS LITTLE PICTURES
BUT DON'T PAINT ON THE CEILING
DON'T REALLY LET YOUR FEELINGS SHOW
I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU GO TELL THAT TO MICHAELANGELO

I'VE GOT THIS FRIEND SHE'S A REAL FIRECRACKER
AND THE SWEETEST SOUL I KNOW
THE PROBLEM IS SHE'S GOT THIS BOYFRIEND
WHO TRIES TO KEEP HER IN TOW
HE SAYS SHE CRIES TOO HARD, SHE LAUGHS TOO LOUD
HEY AIN'T THAT WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT
IF I COULD GIVE HIM A PIECE OF MY MIND
WHEN HE TELLS HER SHE'S THE EMOTIONAL KIND, I’D SAY

REPEAT CHORUS

BETTER STICK TO BLACK AND WHITE
THERE'S TOO MUCH COLOR IN YOUR SKY
4. Pictures
Pictures

By Steve Seskin and Chuck Jones

LOOK AT ME EIGHTEEN AND TAN
BEHIND THE WHEEL OF MY OLD VAN
HOTEL CALIFORNIA TURNED UP LOUD
NO AIR CONDITIONING WINDOWS DOWN
LOOK AT YOU SMILING AT ME
DON'T WHEN WHEN I'VE BEEN AS HAPPY
AS THAT WEEKEND OUT AT JOSHUA TREE
WHEN I GOT DOWN ON MY KNEES
I LIKE LOOKING AT OLD PHOTOGRAPHS
REMINDS ME OF THE WAY WE'VE ALWAYS MADE EACH OTHER LAUGH

CHORUS:
PICTURES OF THE LIFE WE MADE TOGETHER
MEMORIES OF A LOVE THAT JUST GETS BETTER WITH TIME
SO MANY GOOD TIMES THERE'S NO WAY I WILL FORGET
AND THEY'VE GOT ME THINKIN' 'BOUT PICTURES
WE HAVEN'T TAKEN YET

NEXT YEAR LET'S GO TO DISNEY WORLD
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE OUR LITTLE GIRL
HOLDING HANDS WITH MICKEY MOUSE
CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM ON HER MOUTH
AND YOU'LL GET ALL UPSET WHEN I
SNAP YOU COMING OFF THAT RIDE
WITH THAT PASTY WHITE LOOK
YOU WON'T PUT THAT ONE IN THE BOOK
I LIKE LOOKING BACK ON ALL THE THINGS WE'VE DONE
BUT I LOVE DREAMING OF THE YEARS YET TO COME

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
SOMEDAY I'LL WALK OUR DAUGHTER DOWN THE AISLE
AND EVERY TEAR AND EVERY SMILE
WILL BE CAPTURED IN COLOR

REPEAT CHORUS

CAN YOU SEE US ON THE FRONT PORCH SWING
ALL THE JOY IT'S GONNA BRING
TO HEAR OUR GRAND KIDS LAUGH
AS THEY GO THUMBING THROUGH OUR PAST
PICTURES
5. BFD
BFD

By Craig Carothers and Don Henry

IT’S NOT HIS FAULT
THAT SHE WENT A-WOL
‘CAUSE HE’S TRIED EVERYTHING FROM A TO Z
NOW IT’S J&B
M&M’S AND KFC
AND HE’S TRYING HARD TO MAKE HIMSELF BELIEVE

CHORUS:
IT AIN’T NO BFD
‘CAUSE HE’S GOT CMT
NO S-E-X BUT THAT’S OK
AT LEAST HE AIN’T NO S-O-B
LIKE THAT P-H-D
WHO TOOK HIS EX AND RAN OFF TO L-A

SHE LIKED CNN
MADE FUN OF HIS TNN
SHE ALWAYS CALLED IT E-I-E-I-O
THEIR LOVE IS R-I-P
AT LEAST HE’S F-R-E-E
AND HE AIN’T CRYIN’ IN HIS P-I-L-L-O

REPEAT CHORUS

ONE DAY HE ORDERED PIZZA
FOR SOME R&R WITH THE NFL
WHEN A DELIVERY GIRL NAMED LISA
STOLE HIS HEART WHEN SHE RANG HIS BELL

NOW THEY’RE IN EX-TA-SY
LIKE ANYONE WOULD BE
NO S-E-X YET BUT THAT’S OK
HE’S FEELIN’ JUST LIKE A V-I-P
WITH ALL OF HER T-L-C
AND ASAP SHE’LL BE HIS FI-AN-CE
AND THAT’S A BFD IN A REAL GOOD WAY
6. Every Little Bit of Love
Every Little Bit of Love

By Steve Seskin and Tania Thancheroff

I KNOW THIS GUY
THE HERO OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD
ALWAYS HAS A HELPING HAND TO LEND
HE’S A MODERN DAY JESUS
A LITTLE JOAN OF ARC A LITTLE ROBIN HOOD
I WISH I COULD BE MORE LIKE HIM
|
THREE DAYS A WEEK
HE VOLUNTEERS AS A CROSSING GUARD
AT MY LITTLE GIRL’S SCHOOL
EVERY OTHER SATURDAY
HE DRIVES A VAN FOR MEALS ON WHEELS
ONE DAY I ASKED HIM
WHAT’S YOUR SECRET?
WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS WEARING THAT GRIN? AND HE SAID:

CHORUS:
EVERY LITTLE BIT OF LOVE YOU GIVE PUTS YOU ON THE ROAD TO
EVERY LITTLE BIT OF PEACE YOU’LL EVERY FIND
IT TAKES A LOT OF FAITH TO WALK THROUGH LIFE LIKE THAT
TO KNOW IT ALWAYS COMES BACK TO YOU IN TIME
EVERY LITTLE BIT OF LOVE YOU GIVE

NEXT TIME I SAW HIM I SAID
TELL ME YOUR STORY
HOW’D YOUR LIFE TURN OUT THIS WAY?
HE SAID ALL RIGHT
CAN I BUY YOU A CUP OF COFFEE?
I SAID I REALLY DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THAT TODAY

HE SAID WELL MAYBE THAT’S YOUR PROBLEM
I USED TO BE A LOT LIKE YOU
A DYED IN THE WOOL COMPANY MAN
WORKED SIXTY HOURS A WEEK
ALMOST LOST MY WIFE AND KIDS
THEN I FIGURED OUT
WHAT I’M HERE FOR
THAT I COULD LIVE ON A WHOLE LOT LESS & END UP WITH A WHOLE LOT MORE

REPEAT CHORUS

SO TONIGHT NO MATTER BUSY MY DAY HAS BEEN
I’M GONNA KISS THE ONES I LOVE
AND KISS ‘EM AGAIN
7. New Orleans
New Orleans

By Steve Seskin, Bob Dipiero and Mark D. Sanders

HE WAS TWENTY FIVE SHE WAS TWENTY EIGHT
HE WAS HOME GROWN SHE’D JUST PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE
SHE BOUGHT A SMALL DR. PEPPER TEN DOLLARS WORTH OF GAS
SHE WAS OBVIOUSLY LOST BUT TOO AFRAID TO ASK DIRECTIONS

SO HE OFFERED HER A SMILE AND A STICK OF BEECH NUT GUM
HE SAID WHERE YOU HEADED TO WHERE ARE YOU COMING FROM (SHE SAID)

CHORUS:
NEW ORLEANS
BUT THAT’S ANOTHER STORY
NEW ORLEANS
THAT’S ANOTHER TIME, THAT’S ANOTHER TOWN, THAT’S ANOTHER LIFE

FIRST SHE STAYED A DAY THEN SHE STAYED A WEEK
COUPLE MONTHS LATER THEY WERE LIVING ON HIS PARENTS STREET
HE WORKED THE STATION SHE WORKED THE STORE
AND THEN THEY HAD A KID AND THEN THEY HAD ONE MORE LITTLE JESSE

WHEN SHE DROPPED THE KIDS OFF AT MOTHER’S DAY OUT
ALL THE LADIES HAD THEIR QUESTIONS BUT THEY KNEW NOT TO ASK ABOUT

REPEAT CHORUS

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUPPER, FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
STRANGER STANDING IN A DOOR WAY AS THEY’RE PASSING OUT DESERT
HE SAID “GO ON AND PACK YOUR BAGS I’M HERE TO TAKE YOU HOME
I’M GOING BACK TO LOUISIANA AND WOMAN I AIN’T GONNA GO WITHOUT YOU”

THERE’S A FEW DEFINING MOMENTS IN EVERY PERSONS LIFE
WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’VE DONE WRONG AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’VE DONE RIGHT
BEFORE THE WHOLE CONGREGATION, HER HUSBAND AND HER KIDS
SHE SAID “HOW DARE YOU EVEN SPEAK TO ME AFTER EVERYTHING YOU DID (IN)

REPEAT CHORUS
8. Skippin' Stones
Skippin' Stones

By Steve Seskin and Austin Gardiner

I PLAYED FIRST BASE IN LITTLE LEAGUE
I ALWAYS BATTED NINTH
IT WAS A GOOD THING I COULD CATCH AND THROW
I COULDN’T HIT TO SAVE MY LIFE
IT WAS AGAINST THE MAYFIELD TIGERS
DON’T YA KNOW IT WAS MY FATE
THE BASES LOADED, TWO MEN OUT
ONE RUN DOWN AND MY TURN AT THE PLATE
HE THREW THREE BALLS, I MISSED THEM ALL
TWELVE YEARS OLD FEELIN’ TWO FEET TALL
DRIVIN’ HOME MY DADDY SAID
“IT’S ALL GONNA BE ALL RIGHT
WHADDYA SAY WE HEAD DOWN TO THE LAKE
WHILE THERE’S STILL A LITTLE LIGHT? WE’LL GO”

CHORUS:
SKIPPIN’ STONES
SCARE ALL THE FISH AWAY
YOU AND ME AND A LAZY DAY
WE CAN WATCH THE SUN SET INTO THE LAKE
SKIPPIN’ STONES
FIND US ONE AND LET IT GO
WE’LL COUNT THE JUMPS WITH EVERY THROW
I’LL TEACH YOU ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT
SKIPPIN’ STONES

THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING
IS FINDIN’ THAT RIGHT ROCK
‘CAUSE EVEN CATFISH HUNTER
COULDN’T MAKE THE WRONG ONE HOP
ITS NOT ALL IN THE TIMIN’
IT’S NOT ALL IN THE WRIST
JUST PLAY THE WIND, LET ONE FLY
JUST LIKE LIFE IT’S ALWAYS HIT OR MISS
NOW TIME HAS PASSED AND SO HAS DAD
BUT THE WISDOM OF HIS WORDS STILL LASTS
AND WHEN I’M DOWN I CAN HEAR HIM SAY
“IT’S ALL GONNA BE ALL RIGHT
WHADDYA SAY WE HEAD DOWN TO THE LAKE
WHILE THERE’S STILL A LITTLE LIGHT? WE’LL GO”

REPEAT CHORUS

9. Wrong
Wrong

By Steve Seskin and Andre Pessis

IT WAS A PICTURE PERFECT WEDDING
WE HAD THE WHOLE WORLD AT OUR FEET
EVERYONE THOUGHT WE WERE HEADING
DOWN A LOVER’S EASY STREET
WE’D HAVE A HOUSE OUT IN THE COUNTRY
A PICKET FENCE, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS
OUR LOVE WOULD LAST FOREVER
IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE STARS

CHORUS:
WRONG
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT ALL ALONG
WHEN THE FUTURE LOOKS TOO BRIGHT
CANT BE ANYTHING BUT RIGHT
WRONG
EVERYTHING WAS GOIN’ STRONG
THE SKY WAS ALWAYS BLUE
I THOUGHT MY DREAMS HAD ALL COME TRUE
WRONG

I WAS ALL BUT DEVASTATED
WHEN SHE TOLD ME WE WERE THROUGH
BUT IN A WHILE THE HEART ACHE FADED
AND I FOUND SOMEBODY NEW
I SWORE THAT THIS TIME WOULD BE DIFFERENT
I HAD IT ALL FIGURED OUT
I WOULDN’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES
I KNEW WHAT LOVE WAS ALL ABOUT

REPEAT CHORUS

10. Don't Laugh At Me
Don't Laugh At Me

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

I'M A LITTLE BOY WITH GLASSES
THE ONE THEY CALL A GEEK
A LITTLE GIRL WHO NEVER SMILES
'CAUSE I'VE GOT BRACES ON MY TEETH
AND I KNOW HOW IT FEELS
TO CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP
I'M THAT KID ON EVERY PLAYGROUND
WHO'S ALWAYS CHOSEN LAST
I’M THE ONE WHO’S SLOWER
THAN THE OTHERS IN MY CLASS
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE MY FRIEND
BUT IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

CHORUS:
DON'T LAUGH AT ME DON'T CALL ME NAMES
DON'T GET YOUR PLEASURE FROM MY PAIN
IN GOD'S EYES WE'RE ALL THE SAME
SOMEDAY WE'LL ALL HAVE PERFECT WINGS
DON'T LAUGH AT ME

I'M THE BEGGAR ON THE CORNER
YOU'VE PASSED ME ON THE STREET
AND I WOULDN'T BE OUT HERE BEGGING
IF I HAD ENOUGH TO EAT
DON'T THINK I DON'T NOTICE
THAT OUR EYES NEVER MEET
I WAS BORN A LITTLE DIFFERENT
I DO MY DREAMIN’ FROM THIS CHAIR
I PRETEND IT DOESN’T HURT ME
WHEN PEOPLE POINT AND STARE
THERE’S A SIMPLE WAY OF SHOWIN’
JUST HOW MUCH YOU CARE

REPEAT CHORUS

I'M FAT
I'M THIN
I'M SHORT
I'M TALL
I'M DEAF
I'M BLIND
HEY AREN'T WE ALL?

REPEAT CHORUS
11. It's Always Something
It's Always Something

By Steve Seskin and Kevin Fisher

MY AUTO MECHANIC SAYS I NEED NEW BRAKES
AND FIVE HUNDRED BIG ONES IS ALL IT’S GONNA TAKE
I’M SHAKIN’ MY HEAD I’M SWEARIN’ AT THE STARS
‘CAUSE THAT’S MORE THAN I PAID FOR THE WHOLE DAMN CAR
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
MY IN-LAWS ARE COMING IN LESS THAN A WEEK
JUST THINKING ABOUT IT I’M LOSING SLEEP
THE WOLF’S AT MY DOOR AND THE WORLD’S GOING TO WAR
AND MY TWO-YEAR-OLD JUST FINGER-PAINTED THE FLOOR

IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
WE’VE ALL GOTTA RISE ABOVE
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
IN LIFE AND LOVE
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
BUT AIN’T IT BETTER THAN NOTHING

THERE’S A LEAK IN THE ROOF AND A STORM IN THE SKY
AND UNCLE SAM KEEPS BLEEDIN’ ME DRY
SO IT’S EARLY TO WORK AND LATE COMIN’ HOME
BEFORE I KNOW IT MY KIDS WILL BE GROWN
FINALLY TOOK A VACATION THEY LOST OUR BAGS
CAME HOME TO A TICKET FOR EXPIRED TAGS
MY HAIR’S GETTING THINNER BUT I’M A SWEEPSTAKES WINNER
AT LEAST THAT’S WHAT THEY SAID WHEN THEY CALLED DURING DINNER

IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
WE’VE ALL GOT HILLS TO CLIMB
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
WE’RE ALL IN A RACE AGAINST TIME
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
BUT AIN’T IT BETTER THAN NOTHING

I MAY NEVER BE WEALTHY BUT I’M ALREADY RICH
GOT FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND FOOD IN THE FRIDGE
AND MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
AND HER MOTHER JUST SAID SHE’LL TAKE THE KIDS FOR THE NIGHT

IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
PUTS A SMILE BACK ON MY FACE
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
MAKES ME GLAD I’M STILL IN THE RACE
IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
BUT AIN’T IT BETTER THAN NOTHING
12. Warm Wind
Warm Wind

By Steve Seskin and Carol Elliot

THE WINTER TURNED BITTER AND COLD
AS OUR LOVE DRIFTED TO SEA
AND I WATCHED THE CLOUDS FREEZE AND FALL
LIKE THESE TEARS INSIDE OF ME
I TRIED TO KINDLE THE FIRE
BUT I WAS GRASPING AT STRAWS
‘CAUSE I KNEW THAT MY LOVE FOR YOU
WAS A LOST CAUSE (BUT)

CHORUS:
A WARM WIND WILL BLOW AGAIN
AND EVERY BROKEN HEART WILL MEND
WHILE SOME DREAMS MAY CRUMBLE
THE EARTH STILL SPINS
AND A WARM WIND WILL BLOW AGAIN

I’LL PLANT SOME NEW SEEDS OF HOPE
AND I’LL WATER THEM WELL
AND I KNOW THAT FLOWERS WILL GROW
WHEN THIS SNOW MELTS (CAUSE)

REPEAT CHORUS

AND OH IT’S WORTH WAITING FOR
TO FEEL MY SPIRIT DANCE ONCE MORE

REPEAT CHORUS
13. Bridge of Hope
Bridge of Hope

By Steve Seskin and Janet McLaughlin

THESE DAYS THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS TROUBLING ME
SEEMS LIKE THIS WORLD'S FOREVER AT WAR BUT GREED'S THE REAL ENEMY
FOR SO LONG, WE'VE BEEN CHOOSING FEAR OVER FAITH
WE'VE GROWN SO FAR APART THAT IT'S GONNA TAKE

CHORUS:
A BRIDGE OF HOPE, STRONG AS STEEL
MADE OF LOVE, MADE TO HEAL
ON THE OTHER SIDE, I THINK I SEE
A WORLD WHERE WE'RE ALL FREE TO LIVE IN PEACE

I'VE BEEN SPENDING TOO MUCH ENERGY TRYIN TO GET AHEAD
WHEN I COULD BE SPENDING A LITTLE MORE TIME HELPING THOSE IN NEED INSTEAD
I'M SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THIS ILL WILL
IN MY HEART I KNOW TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD

REPEAT CHORUS

I KNOW THAT WE CAN FIND
A WAY ACROSS THIS GREAT DIVIDE
AND EVERYONE ON EARTH CAN GET TO THEIR OWN PROMISED LAND
KINDNESS IS WHAT WE NEED
AGREE TO DISAGREE
ALL COLORS OF THE RAINBOW WALKIN’ HAND IN HAND IN HAND ON

REPEAT CHORUS
14. Use Mine
Use Mine

By Steve Seskin and Lisa Drew

I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD
WE WERE POOR AS DIRT
MOM WAS PREGNANT WITH MY SISTER
ND DAD WAS OUT OF WORK
I WANTED A BICYCLE
TO RIDE WITH MY FRIENDS
A SHINY WESTERN FLYER
IN CANDY-APPLE RED
I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND
WHY THAT BIKE NEVER CAME
BUT MONEY CAN'T BUY
WHAT I GOT IN ITS PLACE
DAD TIED WOODEN BLOCKS
TO THE PEDALS OF HIS SCHWINN
ROLLED OUT THAT KLUNKER
AND SAID WITH A GRIN

CHORUS:
USE MINE, GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT
WHAT ELSE IS IT FOR?
I WISH I COULD DO MORE
JUST GO SLOW
YOU'RE GONNA DO FINE
THIS IS WHAT LIFE'S ALL ABOUT
USE MINE

SENIOR PROM
I WAS SCARED TO DEATH
BUT I FINALLY CALLED UP JULIE ANN
AND SHE SAID YES
ON TOP OF THE WORLD
WHEN THE BIG NIGHT ARRIVED
'TIL SUDDENLY IT DAWNED ON ME
WHAT I HAD TO DRIVE
MY RUSTY BLUE DODGE
HAD ONE ORANGE DOOR
RIPS IN THE SEATS
AND A HOLE IN THE FLOOR
I LOOKED AT MY DAD
AND HIS NEW MERCURY
AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT
WHEN HE TOSSED ME THE KEY

REPEAT CHORUS

NOW I'M SITTIN' HERE STARIN' AT MY OLD MAN
THE DOCTORS DON'T GIVE HIM MUCH TIME
HE'S TRYIN' TO STAND UP BUT HIS STRENGTH IS ALL GONE
SO I SAY TO MY HERO AS I OFFER MY ARM

REPEAT CHORUS

THIS IS WHAT LIFE'S ALL ABOUT
EVERYTHING COMES BACK AROUND
15. Right Outta Nowhere
Right Outta Nowhere

By Steve Seskin and Christine Kane

A MIDWEST MORNING
OCTOBER SNOWFALL
SHE PACKED HER CHEVROLET
AND SHE BRUSHED THE FEAR AWAY
SHE’S GOT A GREAT BIG DREAM
AND A HISTORY OF PLAYING SMALL
AND EVERYBODY SEEMS TO THINK
SHE’LL BE BACK BEFORE CHRISTMAS DAY
SHE HIT THAT HIGHWAY
WITH EVERY OUNCE OF FAITH SHE COULD SUMMON
WHEN COURAGE FINALLY COMES
YOU NEVER SEE IT COMIN’

RIGHT OUTTA NOWHERE
YOU OPEN YOUR HEART
AND THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
YOU’RE GOING SOMEWHERE
AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
IS THAT YOU’RE FREE TO GO

A SUMMER NIGHT
THE SOFT SMELL OF SEASHORE
ALL THE DEADHEADS DANCING
OUT ON THE BEACH
HE’S GOT A TEN YEAR TAN
AND HIS OWN LITTLE JUNK STORE
HE SAYS, SOME PEOPLE GOT A LOT TO PROVE
AND THAT’S THE WAY I USED TO BE
NOW I’M JUST AN OLD HIPPIE
WITH A HALF DOZEN PHD’S
SOME CHOICES HOLD YOU DOWN
SOME CHANCES SET YOU FREE

RIGHT OUTTA NOWHERE
YOU OPEN YOUR HEART
AND LET GO OF EVERYTHING
YOU’RE GOING SOMEWHERE
AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
IS THAT YOU’RE FREE TO GO

DREAM AND THE WAY WILL BE CLEAR
PRAY AND THE ANGELS WILL HEAR
LEAP AND THE NET WILL APPEAR

RIGHT OUTTA NOWHERE
YOU OPEN YOUR HEART
AND BELIEVE IN EVERYTHING
YOU’RE GOING SOMEWHERE
AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
IS THAT YOU’RE FREE
RIGHT OUTTA NOWHERE
YOU OPEN YOUR HEART
AND HAVE FAITH IN EVERYTHING
YOU’RE GOING SOMEWHERE
AND ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
IS THAT YOU’RE FREE TO GO
16. I Think About You
I Think About You

By Steve Seskin and Ron Schlitz

EVERY TIME I SEE A WOMAN ON A BILLBOARD SIGN
I THINK ABOUT YOU
SAYIN’ DRINK THIS BEER AND YOU’LL BE MINE
I THINK ABOUT YOU
WHEN AN ACTRESS ON A MOVIE SCREEN
PLAYS LOLITA IN SOME OLD MAN’S DREAM
IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO SHE IS
I THINK ABOUT YOU

EVERY TIME I SEE A WOMAN WALKING DOWN THE STREET
I THINK ABOUT YOU
MEN LOOK HER UP AND DOWN LIKE SHE’S SOME KIND OF TREAT
I THINK ABOUT YOU
SHE WOULDN’T DARE TALK TO A STRANGER
ALWAYS HAS TO BE AWARE OF THE DANGER
IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO SHE IS
I THINK ABOUT YOU

CHORUS:
EIGHT YEARS OLD
BIG BROWN EYES
AND A HEART OF GOLD
WHEN I LOOK AT THIS WORLD
I THINK ABOUT YOU
AND I CAN’T HELP BUT SEE
THAT EVERY WOMAN USED TO BE
SOMEBODY’S LITTLE GIRL
I THINK ABOUT YOU

EVERY TIME I HEAR SOMEBODY SAY IT’S NEVER GONNA CHANGE
I THINK ABOUT YOU
LIKE IT’S SOME KIND OF JOKE, SOME KIND OF GAME
I THINK ABOUT YOU
WHEN I SEE A WOMAN ON THE NEWS
WHO DIDN’T ASK TO BE ABANDONED OR ABUSED
IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO SHE IS
I THINK ABOUT YOU

REPEAT CHORUS
17. You Never Know How Soon
You Never Know How Soon

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

MY DAD, HE'S A TOUGH ONE
HE GREW UP HARD, IT LEFT ITS MARK
HE AND I HAD A ROUGH ONE
BUT I KNOW HE TRIED TO RAISE ME RIGHT
I'VE NEVER TOLD HIM I LOVE HIM
I GUESS PRIDE GOT IN THE WAY
BUT SITTIN' HERE WATCHIN' THIS SUN GO DOWN
I'M THINKIN' I'D BETTER TELL HIM TODAY
'CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW HOW SOON IT'S GONNA BE TOO LATE

MY WIFE GAVE ME CHILDREN
A GIRL AND BOY, MY PRIDE AND JOY
I LOVE BEIN' WITH THEM
YEAH I WORK HARD BUT MY REAL JOB
IS MAKIN' SURE THAT I MAKE THE TIME
WHEN THEY SAY, DADDY, COME OUT AND PLAY
'CAUSE I KNOW THEY'LL GO FROM FLYIN' THAT KITE WITH ME
TO FLYIN' AWAY
YEAH, YOU NEVER KNOW HOW SOON IT'S GONNA BE TOO LATE

TIME IS LIKE A WINDOW
IT OPENS AND IT CLOSES
CHANCES COME AND GO JUST LIKE THE WIND
LIFE IS SO UNCERTAIN
IF WE DON'T SEIZE THE MOMENTS
CAN WE TRULY REST IN PEACE IN THE END

TONIGHT I'M FEELING GOOD
I CALLED MY DAD AND HE DIDN'T GET MAD
WE TALKED AND THEN WE LAUGHED
CLEARED THE AIR HE REALLY DOES CARE
WHEN HE OPENED HIS HEART TO ME
I KNEW JUST WHAT TO SAY
I TOLD HIM I LOVE HIM
AND A BURDEN FELL AWAY
DON'T MAKE FORGIVENESS WAIT
'CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW HOW SOON IT'S GONNA BE TOO LATE
18. It's a Jungle Out Here
It's a Jungle Out Here

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

WHEN YOU INSISTED THAT I SLEEP IN THE YARD
I LAUGHED PRETTY HARD
FOR A LITTLE WHILE
BUT YOU WEREN’T FOOLIN’ NOW I’M HERE ON THE LAWN
AND ‘THOUGH ADMITTING I’M WRONG
IS NOT MY STYLE

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
I WON’T MAKE IT ‘TILL DAWN
AND THOUGH I’M RIGHT WHERE I BELONG
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE

I SHOULDA BUILT THAT PATIO AND BOUGHT THAT CHAISE LOUNGE
I WOULDN’T BE HERE ON THE GROUND
WITH THE SNAILS AND SLUGS
I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE PROBABLY WATCHIN’ TV
NOT EVEN THINKIN’ ‘BOUT ME
BUT I’M THINKIN’ ‘BOUT YOU MY LOVE

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
PLEASE LET ME BACK IN
DON’T LEAVE ME TWISTIN’ IN THIS WIND
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE

I’D SLEEP IN THE DOG HOUSE
BUT HE SEES IT YOUR WAY TOO
SO MUCH FOR MAN’S BEST FRIEND

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
I WON’T MAKE IT ‘TILL DAWN
AND OK I’M RIGHT WHERE I BELONG
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
19. I Don't Wanna Fall From Here
I Don't Wanna Fall From Here

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

HALFWAY UP A FIFTY FOOT MAPLE
STRADDLIN' A LIMB, WONDERIN' IF I'M ABLE
HAD A HAMMER IN ONE HAND, BOARD IN THE OTHER
TRYIN' NOT TO LISTEN TO MY LOUD-MOUTHED BROTHER, YELLIN'
IT'S A LONG WAY DOWN
AND THIS IS SOME REAL HARD GROUND
THAT TREE HOUSE SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA
FROM THE PILLOW OF MY BUNK BED
BUT UP THAT HIGH THERE WAS JUST ONE THING
RUNNIN' THROUGH MY HEAD
I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE
I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE

TWENTY THOUSAND FEET AND WE'RE STILL CLIMBIN'
BOUNCIN' OFF THE CLOUDS THE ENGINE'S WHININ'
HOW DID I GET STUCK WITH THIS WINDOW SEAT
MY SISTER KEEPS SAYIN', MOM THIS IS SO NEAT
I'M SAYIN', I'M TOO YOUNG
AND JUST AS THAT PRAYER LEFT MY TONGUE
THE CAPTAIN SAID, BETTER BUCKLE UP
WE'RE FLYIN' INTO A STORM
I LATCHED ONTO MY MOMMA
TIGHT AS THE DAY THAT I WAS BORN, SAID
I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE

I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS HIGH
UP WHERE THE BRAVEST BIRDS FLY
I'M TRYIN' HARD TO LET GO OF MY FEAR
BUT I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE

IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I'VE FELT THAT FEELING
MY HEART IS POUNDING SURE AS I'M HERE KNEELING
GOTTA DIAMOND IN MY POCKET A QUESTION IN MY MOUTH
ANY SECOND NOW IT'S GONNA POP RIGHT OUT
I'M THINKIN' YOU'LL SAY YES
EITHER WAY I'M SCARED TO DEATH
I'M SITTIN' HERE ON TOP OF THE WORLD
AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF YOU
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE
I'VE GOT SOMETHIN' TO LOSE
I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE
I DON'T WANNA FALL FROM HERE

I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS HIGH
UP WHERE THE BRAVEST BIRDS FLY
YOUR EYES ARE TELLIN' ME TO HAVE NO FEAR
THAT I'M NOT GONNA FALL FROM HERE
YOU WON'T LET ME FALL FROM HERE
20. A Little Excitement
A Little Excitement

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

THERE’S A DOG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SLEEPIN’ IN THE SUN
THERE’S A CADILLAC HONKIN’ AT THE DOG BUT THE DOG WON’T RUN
LOOKS LIKE WE GOT OURSELVES A BIG SHOW DOWN
A LITTLE EXCITEMENT GOES A LONG WAY IN THIS TOWN
THERE’S AN OLD MAN PUSHIN’ A LAUGHIN’ BABY IN A SWING
THERE’S A LITTLE BOY PLAYIN’ WITH A JUNE BUG TIED TO A STRING
DON’T THAT BLUE BIRD MAKE THE SWEETEST SOUND
A LITTLE EXCITEMENT GOES A LONG WAY IN THIS TOWN

CHORUS:
SOME MAY THINK THIS LIFE IS SLOW
BUT I KNOW SOMETHING THEY DON'T KNOW
GRAB A SEAT IT’S QUITE A SHOW
TO WATCH THE WHEELS OF LIFE GO ‘ROUND

THERE’S A RUMOR GOIN’ ‘ROUND ‘BOUT ME AND BECKY SUE
ME MORE THAN ANYBODY WISHES IT WAS TRUE
THEY’LL HAVE US HAVIN’ KIDS BEFORE THE TALE’S UNWOUND
A LITTLE EXCITEMENT GOES A LONG WAY IN THIS TOWN
THERE’S A SOFTBALL GAME IN THE PARK AND THE SCORE IS TIED
IT’S BEEN SUCH A GOOD GAME I’M ROOTIN’ FOR EITHER SIDE
HEY I GET A BIG KICK JUST KNOWIN’ THAT POUND FOR POUND
A LITTLE EXCITEMENT GOES A LONG WAY IN THIS TOWN

REPEAT CHORUS
21. Grown Men Don't Cry
Grown Men Don't Cry

By Steve Seskin and Tom Douglas

I PULLED INTO THE SHOPPING CENTER
SAW A LITTLE BOY WRAPPED AROUND THE LEGS OF HIS MOTHER
LIKE ICE CREAM MELTING THEY EMBRACED
YEARS OF BAD DECISIONS RUNNING DOWN HER FACE
ALL MORNING I'D BEEN THINKING MY LIFE'S SO HARD
AND THEY WORE EVERYTHING THEY OWNED LIVING IN A CAR
I WANTED TO TELL 'EM IT WOULD BE O.K.
BUT I JUST GOT BACK IN MY SUBURBAN AND DROVE AWAY

CHORUS:
I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY SAY GROWN MEN DON'T CRY
I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY SAY GROWN MEN DON'T CRY

I KEEP HAVING THIS DREAM ABOUT MY OLD MAN
I'M TEN YEARS OLD AND HE'S HOLDING MY HAND
WE'RE TALKING ON THE FRONT PORCH WATCHING THE SUN GO DOWN
BUT IT'S JUST A DREAM HE WAS A SLAVE TO HIS JOB
AND HE COULDN'T BE AROUND
SO MANY THINGS I WANNA SAY TO HIM
BUT I JUST PUT A ROSE ON HIS GRAVE AND TALK TO THE WIND

REPEAT CHORUS

I'M SITTING HERE WITH MY KIDS AND MY WIFE
EVERYTHING I HOLD DEAR IN MY LIFE
WE SAY GRACE AND THANK THE LORD
GOT SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR
THEN IT'S UP THE STAIRS AND OFF TO BED
AND MY LITTLE BOY SAYS I HAVEN'T HAD MY STORY YET
AND ALL THESE THINGS WEIGHING ON MY MIND DISAPPEAR JUST LIKE THAT
WHEN HE LIFTS HIS HEAD OFF HIS PILLOW AND SAYS I LOVE YOU DAD

REPEAT CHORUS
22. Last First Kiss
Last First Kiss

By Steve Seskin and John McCutcheon

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE’S ON
KIDS ARE GONE
I’M THINKIN’ OF THAT MOMENT WHEN
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS SPEAK
AND MY KNEES WENT WEAK
I’M TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD AGAIN

CHORUS:
YOU WERE MY LAST FIRST KISS
I NEVER IMAGINED LOVE COULD BE LIKE THIS
YOU ARE THE WOMAN I STILL CAN’T RESIST
YO WERE MY LAST FIRST KISS

THAT FRIDAY NIGHT STANDING AT YOUR GATE
IT WAS GETTING LATE
A LONG SLOW WALK HOME FROM THE DANCE
YOU SAID YOU HAD A REAL NICE TIME
SLIPPED YOUR HAND IN MINE
SO I CLOSED MY EYES AND TOOK A CHANCE

REPEAT CHORUS

WE’VE BEEN TO HEAVEN
WE’VE BEEN THROUGH HELL
SINCE I GAVE YOU THAT RING
HEAVEN KNOWS I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING

REPEAT CHORUS

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE’S ON
THE KIDS ARE GONE
I’M THINKIN’ WHAT A RIDE IT’S BEEN
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SPEAK
MY KNEES GO WEAK
I’M TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD AGAIN
23. Everybody's Got A Mountain
Everybody's Got A Mountain

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

I'M SITTIN' IN TRAFFIC STARIN' OUT THE WINDOW
AT A MAN IN AN SUV
PLAYIN' IN THE BACK THERE'S THREE LITTLE KIDS
THAT'S A BIG RESPONSIBILITY
DAY AND NIGHT
THERE'S AN AMBULANCE DRIVER INCHIN' HIS WAY
TRYIN' TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE CRUSH
DOIN' HIS JOB PICKIN' UP THE PIECES OF SOME POOR SOUL
WHO WAS IN A RUSH
I HOPE HE'S ALL RIGHT
NOW I'M THINKIN' ABOUT THESE PEOPLE
WHO I'VE NEVER EVEN MET
YOU GET SO CAUGHT UP IN YOUR OWN LIFE
IT'S EASY TO FORGET

CHORUS:
EVERYBODY'S GOT A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB
EVERYBODY'S GOT A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB
EVERYBODY'S GOT A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB
AND MOST OF THOSE MOUNTAINS ARE STEEPER THAN MINE

THIS KID WAS FLYIN' HIGH STARIN' AT THE BOTTOM
IT WASN'T GONNA GET MUCH WORSE
NOW HE'S TWO DAYS CLEAN HIS HANDS ARE SHAKIN'
GONNA LICK THIS IF IT DOESN'T KILL HIM FIRST
THE JURY'S OUT
THERE'S AN OLD GUY SITTIN' IN A DARK APARTMENT
TALKIN' TO A PICTURE OF HIS LOVIN' WIFE
CURSIN' THAT DAY THE GOOD LORD TOOK HER
THINKIN' 'BOUT MAYBE TAKIN' HIS OWN LIFE
BUT THAT'S NO WAY OUT
ONE LOOK AT THEIR TROUBLES
AT THE TOUGH ROAD THEY FACE
AND I HAVE TO COUNT MY BLESSINGS
SAY A PRAYER FOR THE HUMAN RACE

REPEAT CHORUS

WE LIVE IN A LAND WHERE THERE'S FOOD ON THE TABLE
AND YOU'RE FREE TO SPEAK YOUR MIND
WHERE YOU CAN START WITH NOTHIN' AND MAKE IT TO THE TOP
AND DREAMIN' AIN'T A CRIME
AND WE TAKE IT ALL FOR GRANTED
WHILE THERE'S PLACES WITH TANKS IN THE STREETS
WHERE NO VOTES ARE COUNTED AND OPPRESSION RULES THE DAY
SOME WITH NO RUNNING WATER NOT ENOUGH TO EAT
AND ALL THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT IS PRAY
AND THEY MOSTLY COME UP EMPTY-HANDED

REPEAT CHORUS
24. I Owe You One
I Owe You One

By Steve Seskin and Jason Matthews

IT’S GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU IT’S BEEN A WHILE
IS THERE SOMETHING ON YOUR MIND
I CAN READ YOU JUST LIKE A BOOK
SO TALK TO ME BIG BROTHER I HAVE NOTHING BUT TIME
I CAN’T BELIEVE SHE KICKED YOU OUT
WON’T LET YOU SEE THE KIDS
YOU’VE BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR SIX MONTHS NOW
AND YOU’VE GOT NO PLACE TO LIVE
YOU’RE ALL ALONE AND HURTIN’
YOU COULD NEVER BE A BURDEN
MY DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN
‘CAUSE ONE THING I KNOW FOR CERTAIN IS

CHORUS:
I OWE YOU ONE
THERE IS NO WAY TO REPAY YOU
FOR WHAT YOU’VE DONE FOR ME
REST ASSURED MY LOVE FOR YOU WILL NEVER WAVER
I’VE BEEN LIVIN’ FOR THE DAY
I COULD RETURN THE FAVOR
I OWE YOU ONE

I WAS TWELVE WHEN YOU TURNED SIXTEEN
MOM DID ALL THAT SHE COULD DO
BUT DAD FELL OFF THE WAGON AND WANDERED OFF
AND IT WAS UP TO YOU BIG BROTHER TO SEE US THROUGH
SO YOU QUIT SCHOOL AND GOT A JOB AT THE A & P
BAGGIN’ GROCERIES SO WE’D HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT
YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO THROW A CURVE
GOT ON ME WHEN I LOST MY NERVE
WHERE WOULD I BE NOW
IF YOU’D HAVE PUT YOURSELF FIRST

REPEAT CHORUS

SO I’LL SEND DOWN SOME MONEY
WE’VE GOT A SPARE BEDROOM
NO YOU DON’T OWE ME ANYTHING
I OWE YOU

REPEAT CHORUS
25. I Still Love Lucy
I Still Love Lucy

By Steve Seskin and Austin Gardner

HAVE YOU NOTICED WHEN WE GO SHOPPING THESE DAYS
THERE'S SO MUCH FOR US TO DECIDE
THEY GOT FIFTY-FIVE VARIETIES OF CEREAL
THEY ALL GOT HIGH TECH TOYS INSIDE
THEY'RE PUSHIN' IMPORTED GOURMET ICE CREAM
WITH NAMES I CAN'T EVEN PRONOUNCE
YOU KNOW THE ADVERTISIN' WORLD IS COUNTIN' ON ME
BUT THEY MIGHT AS WELL COUNT ME OUT

CHORUS:
I EAT MEAT AND POTATOES WITH WONDER BREAD
I BUY VANILLA AT THE DAIRY QUEEN
I BRUSH WITH CREST
WASH WITH IVORY SOAP
AND I'M PROUD TO USE BRILL CREAM
MY SNEAKERS ARE KEDS I WEAR LEVI'S JEANS
I WATCH A BLACK AND WHITE TV
AND I STILL LOVE LUCY

I WENT DOWN TO THE SPORTING GOODS STORE
'CAUSE MY KEDS FINALLY GAVE UP THE GHOST
THE SALESMAN WAS SOME RICH COLLEGE KID
HE LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS SOME KIND OF JOKE
HE SAID DO YOU PLAY RACQUETBALL, BASKETBALL, TENNIS OR SQUASH
ON CLAY, GRASS OR CONCRETE?
I SAID JUST GIMME SOMETHIN' CHEAP IN A TEN DOUBLE EE
THAT SIMPLY COVERS MY FEET

REPEAT CHORUS

NOW, LEVI STRAUSS IS A HERO OF MINE
HE'S THE BLUE JEANS PIONEER
IN FACT THE PAIR THAT I HAVE ON RIGHT NOT
I'VE BEEN WEARIN' FOR SEVENTEEN YEARS
NOW THEY'VE GOT JORDACHE, SERGIO, GUESS AND SASSOON
AND SOME GUY NAMED CALVIN KLEIN
NOW I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT IT MAKES ME NERVOUS
WEARIN' SOMEONE'S NAME ON MY BEHIND

REPEAT CHORUS
26. To Be Who I Am
To Be Who I Am

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

MY DADDY WANTED ME TO BE AN ENGINEER
YEAH TO HEAR HIM TALK IT WAS THE ONLY CAREER
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO TRY THAT PATH
'CAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE SCIENCE AND I HATED MATH
THERE I WAS LIVING MY DADDY'S DREAM
BUT MAKING HIM PROUD WAS KILLING ME
IT TOOK YEARS FOR ME TO ADMIT
I WAS WEARING SHOES THAT JUST DIDN'T FIT

CHORUS:
WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN ROADS TO TRAVEL
AND WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN LIGHTS TO SHINE
IT'S BEEN A LONG HARD LESSON BUT I'VE COME TO UNDERSTAND
I WAS MEANT TO BE WHO I AM

I GAVE TWO WEEKS NOTICE AND I CALLED MY DAD
I SAID, "THERE'S A DREAM I'VE ALWAYS HAD
REMEMBER THAT GUITAR I USED TO PLAY?
WELL, I'VE BEEN PLAYING IT NIGHT AND DAY
AND THERE'S WORDS AND MUSIC COMING OUT OF ME
SOME SEEM TO THINK IT'S POETRY
SO WITH ALL MY HEART AND THE MONEY I'VE MADE
GONNA GIVE IT MY BEST COME WHAT MAY"

REPEAT CHORUS

MISERY WAS ALL I GOT
WHEN I TRIED BEING WHAT I'M NOT
THE ANGELS CHEERED FROM UP ABOVE
WHEN I STARTED DOING WHAT I LOVE

CHORUS

IT'S BEEN A LONG HARD LESSON NOW EVEN DAD UNDERSTANDS
I WAS MEANT TO BE WHO I AM.

1. Man to Man
Man to Man

By Steve Seskin and Andre Pessis

I always noticed they didn't get along
I thought that was just the way it was, nothing really wrong
Came home from school one day, my dad took me aside
I'd never seen him cry before it tore me up inside when he said

CHORUS:
Son we need to have a little man to man
You're old enough now to understand
In spite of all our dreams and the best of plans
Your mom and I don't see eye to eye
She thinks it's best for her to go
We'll have to get along without her how I don't know
He said boy I'll need your help, and then we shook hands
Man to man

Lord knows those next few years were rough
A test of wills it was hard on both of us
I turned eighteen and I wouldn't listen to reason
He wanted what was best for me, all I wanted was my freedom and I said

Dad we need to have a little man to man
I'll always love you and I hope you understand
In spite of all your dreams for me and the best of plans
You and I don't see eye to eye
I think it's time for me to go
You'll get along without me I know
And before I left I tried to shake his hand
Man to man

I remember the night I sat there watching him fade
And I'll always be thankful for the peace we made, he said

Son we need to have us one more man to man
Before I pass I need you to understand
I'm glad you lived your dreams and made your own plans
I hope you always knew how proud I was of you
Looks like it's time for me to go
You'll get along without me, I know
Then he kissed my cheek and we held hands
Man to man
2. Pictures
Pictures

By Steve Seskin and Chuck Jones

Look at me eighteen and tan
Behind the wheel of my old van
Hotel California turned up loud
No air conditioning windows down
Look at you smiling at me
Don't when when I've been as happy
As that weekend out at Joshua Tree
When I got down on my knees
I like looking at old photographs
Reminds me of the way we've always made each other laugh

CHORUS:
Pictures of the life we made together
Memories of a love that just gets better with time
So many good times there's no way I will forget
And they've got me thinkin' 'bout pictures
We haven't taken yet

Next year let's go to Disney World
Can't wait to see our little girl
Holding hands with Mickey Mouse
Chocolate ice cream on her mouth
And you'll get all upset when I
Snap you coming off that ride
With that pasty white look
You won't put that one in the book
I like looking back on all the things we've done
But I love dreaming of the years yet to come

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
Someday I'll walk our daughter down the aisle
And every tear and every smile
Will be captured in color

REPEAT CHORUS

Can you see us on the front porch swing
All the joy it's gonna bring
To hear our grandkids laugh
As they go thumbing through our past

3. Love or the Lack Thereof
Love or the Lack Thereof

By Steve Seskin and Tia Sillers

I was standing on the corner looking at traffic
Watching all the people do the daily grind
Some were singing to the radio some looked nervous
Some of those people already looked tired
And it got me thinkin' what's makin' their wheels turn
Did they get a kiss this mornin'
Are they feelin' alive (it's all about)

CHORUS:
Love
Or the lack thereof
Love
Or the lack thereof

Who went to bed lonely went to bed angry
Who got to sleep in the arms of another
Did some get to burn some have to cry
Did some have fun underneath the covers
And whose grown up baby called long distance
And didn't ask for money
Just a little advice about

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
We all dream about it
We lose a lot of sleep
We look up to the heavens
We get down on our knees
We live for it die for it run from it
Lie to ourselves about it
Love
It comes down to love

Now I'm sitting' in a diner drinkin' cold coffee
Thinkin' I should call her thinkin' too much
What am I doin' what am I scared of
I'm crazy about her it all adds up
Over my shoulder I hear
A couple in the corner booth sayin'
Has it really been twenty years darlin'
Now don't that sound nice (Now wouldn't that be nice)

REPEAT CHORUS
4. I'll Always be There for You
I'll Always be There for You

By Steve Seskin and Odie Blackmon

Late night call, collect from Arkansas
She said brother I need your help
She said there's this boy
And I could tell by the crack in her voice
She was in real trouble and all by herself
She said I don't want to be a burden
It's not your problem
Maybe I should just hang up
After all we're years apart, not much in common
And we haven't kept in touch (and I said)

CHORUS 1:
I may have moved away
And I know the day I left I let you down
But you're still my baby sister
Always remember it's by blood that we are bound
I may be here but I'll always be there for you

I know it's bad, you gotta tell mom and dad
You don't have to do this all alone
If I leave right now I should be there by morning
And we can tell them together when I get home
We'll talk and pray and cry a little
We'll work this thing out, we'll do whatever it takes
We'll stand beside you, try to guide you
That's what family's about
But it's your decision to make

CHORUS 2
Six months later on a Sunday morning
That baby girl was born
And we all stood in wonder around the bed
Looking at her in that little pink sleeper
I knew in my heart she wanted to keep her
But God had a bigger plan instead

A young couple came and I heard my sister say
I just wanna give my child the life she deserves
We all held hands then she handed her to them
And we all cried when she whispered these words

CHORUS 3:
I'll think about you every day
I'm only giving you away
'Cause I can't raise you now
I brought you into this world
You'll always be my little girl
It's by blood that we are bound
I may be here but I'll always be there for you

I may be here but I'll always be there for you
5. The First Time
The First Time

By Steve Seskin and Chuck Cannon

The sky caught fire as the sun sank
You and me on a blanket down by the riverbank
And I'm still wonderin' who to thank
We blew a kiss to innocence
Had no idea what we were up against
I guess it really doesn't make any difference, but

CHORUS:
Do you ever think about me
Do you smile when you remember
Do you still cherish that moment like I do
Does your heart start beating faster
Does it bring back all the laughter
And the magic of that July afternoon
When I was yours
And you were mine
And we made love
For the first time

I was scared and so were you
I pretended I knew what to do
Like all guys do
Summer passed and that river ran cold
It wasn't meant to last but it was solid gold
There's a part of me that just can't let it go

REPEAT CHORUS

We moved on
Young lovers often do
But any sunset
Any river
And I'm right back there with you

REPEAT CHORUS
6. Before I Go
Before I Go

By Steve Seskin and Doug Gill

Life's forever changin'
As fleeting as the wind
It's made up of moments
You can't have back again
Common destination
A million ways to go
And when our time is over
Oh we never know
Oh we never know

CHORUS:
I wanna be a risk taker rule breaker
Wanna live a life worth livin'
Learn to let go
Feel the power of givin'
I'll win a few lose a few
But I'm gonna have somethin' to show
Before I go

Been lost and found
And lost again
So far away from home
I've felt the rush
Of love sweet love
And learned to stand alone
There's still so much
I don't understand
Can't waste any time
Gotta dig a little deeper now
And see what I can find
See how high I can climb

REPEAT CHORUS
7. Father's Day
Father's Day

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

It's good to see you, good as ever
How's the weather? Little cold
There's a game on later, we could watch it
This conversation's gettin' old
Another Father's Day
And I know what I'd like to say

I wish you'd been my dad, I wish we'd spent more time
I wish you hadn't gotten mad when I tried to speak my mind
When I need you, you didn't come through and I never understood
Back then to all my friends you were the hero of the neighborhood
But I wish you'd been my dad

What have you been up to? Should we go out for dinner?
How's your mother? She's fine
Just like always we go 'round in circles
Saying nothing one more time
Why's it gotta be like this
It's sad to think of all we've missed

I wish you'd been my dad, I wish that we'd been close
I wish we could've talked about the things that mattered most
Everyone I knew looked up to you, said "hey it must be great"
But we both know it was all for show, yeah, you talked a real good game
But I wish you'd been my dad

I'm tired of carryin' this around
I'm just gonna tell you now

I wish you'd been my dad, I wish we'd spent more time
I wish you hadn't gotten mad when I tried to speak my mind
And I know it must be hard to hear these words on Father's Day
But I say 'em out of love so please don't turn away
So much of life has passed us by and that's a shame
But it's my prayer we still might share more than just the same last name
Dad
I wish you'd be my dad
8. Everyday Heroes
Everyday Heroes

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

He gets there every morning
An hour before the bell
Puts a problem on the blackboard
And a dozen words to spell
For twenty years and counting
He's been trying change the world
One kid at a time
And to all those boys and girls

CHORUS:
He's/she's an everyday hero
Won't make the history books
We barely give 'em a second look
But he/she does it anyway
Ordinary people
Who can't seem to do enough
Do it all in the name of love
With a quiet grace
Everyday heroes are heroes every day

She works up at the center
She's a weekend volunteer
Answerin' the hotline
Always there to lend an ear
Most of us, God willing,
Won't ever have to call
But to all those souls in trouble
With their backs against the wall

REPEAT CHORUS

Take the keys from a friend who's drinking
Read a story to a kid
Call your mom and tell her you love her
You'll be glad you did

Be an everyday hero
You won't make the history books
You won't get a second look
But do it anyway
Ordinary people
Can't seem to do enough
Do it all in the name of love
With a quiet grace
Everyday heroes are heroes every day
9. I Wish I Would've Known
I Wish I Would've Known

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

I wish I would have known
I wish I would have known

At seventeen it was all about
Whether I was in or I was out
Of the in crowd
So hungry for some validation
Some high school hero admiration
It seems so foolish now
That I lived in fear of a little blemish on my face
Or whether every hair was in its place
What a waste

CHORUS:
I wish I woulda known back then
How to be comfortable in my own skin
True friends don't really care
What kind of clothes you wear
I wish I woulda known
That all the things I worried about
Would be so meaningless to me now
Oh, I wish I woulda known

At twenty-one I'da sold my soul
To have a pretty girl or a pot of gold
In my pocket
I'd drink a beer and catch a buzz
I never gave a thought to who I was
I closed the door to my heart and I locked it
I swallowed all my tears
What a shame
I though no one would love me
If I shared my pain
How insane

I wish I woulda known back then
How to be comfortable in my own skin
True friends will stick around
Even when you're down
I wish I woulda known
All the times I tried to please
People who didn't even care about me
Oh, I wish I woulda known

I wish I would have known
It's all right to dance to a different drummer
You can't love somebody 'til you love yourself
I wish I would have known
How to say no when I didn't wanna do it
How to say yes with all of my heart
I wish I would have known
10. What Greater Gift
What Greater Gift

By Steve Seskin and Chuck Jones

Girl I can see you're worried
'Cause it's my birthday
And all you bought me is this card
You didn't wanna get me somethin'
Just to get me somethin'
You thought it over long and hard
You think I'm disappointed
Don't make me laugh
How could I ask for more
Than all I have?

CHORUS:
What greater gift could there be
Than someone to rely on, a shoulder to cry on
Nothing can set my soul free
Like the way you believe in my hopes and my dreams
And want nothing more than to see them come true
What greater gift could there be
Than the love you give to me

I've gotten pretty good at catchin'
What this world throws at me
Since you came and changed my life
Even when I feel like cryin'
I wind up smilin'
There's no wrong you can't make right
And just when I need to hear it
You tell me the truth
There's nothing I fear in this life
Long as I have you
11. Somebody Taught 'Em
Somebody Taught 'Em

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

Black boy white boy fightin' in the school yard
Their silent rage has come to a head
One said somethin' 'bout the color of the other
Now both of those boys are bleedin' red
Go back in time ten years ago
Two newborn babies as sweet as can be
You can blame the parents you can blame the school
I don't have the answer but it occurs to me

CHORUS:
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
Those little angels had no hate in their bones
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones

Husband and wife standin' in the kitchen
Carryin' on a war of words
Kids at the table starin' at their plates
Tryin' to ignore what they just heard
Go back in time to mom and dad's upbringing
And it's no surprise how they communicate
It's a circle of sorrow it's a vicious cycle
We learn by example and then we imitate

Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
They didn't grow up in a home sweet home
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones

BRIDGE:
It's gonna take fathers and mothers
Sisters and brothers
And a whole lotta help from above
Callin' all teachers and preachers
And all of our heroes
To teach our children to love

Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
Somebody hardened their hearts
Guess all I can do is start with my own
Somebody taught 'em to throw those stones
12. An Original
An Original

By Steve Seskin and Jon Davis

All through history
There've been people who made an impression on me
By the way they lived
They weren't afraid
They had dreams to chase and bullets to dodge
They took the bull by the horns
Went against the odds
When people told 'em no they did it anyway
Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, George Jones, John Lennon
Like 'em or not you can't forget 'em

CHORUS:
I'm lookin' for a chance to take
I don't wanna walk the straight and narrow road
When it's all said and done
I wanna leave my mark on this world
I'm bound to rise and sure to fall
I'll do it my way if I do it at all
You be watching for me
I'm gonna be
An original

Every since I was a kid I've had this fire in my heart
I've done my share of shootin' blanks in the dark
Sometimes I miss by a mile
But I'm not givin' up
Oh life can be so bittersweet
I've smelled victory and I've tasted defeat
Win or lose I'm gonna show 'em what I'm made of
Lincoln, Jefferson, The Wright Brothers, Edison
Where would be we without all of them
Earhardt, Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe
Rosa Parks, Mae West, Mother Teresa
Songs and vocals with so much passion they'll tug at your heartstrings and raise you to the heavens.

I'm sitting here with my son and my wife
Everything I hold dear in my life
We say grace and thank the lord
Got so much to be thankful for
Then it's up the stairs and off to bed
And my little boy says I haven't had my story yet
And all these things weighing on my mind disappear just like that
When he lifts his head off his pillow and says I love you dad

REPEAT CHORUS
2. Along the Way
Along the Way

By Steve Seskin and Tia Sillers

Along the way we all fall down
Get the wind knocked out of our souls
But we get back up like a good prize fighter
The body may be weak
Faith may be shaken
But the spirit's bold

CHORUS:
Thank God for sweet forgiveness
All those second chances
Knowin' that tomorrow might be better than today
Thank God for true believers
All those tender mercies
Knowing that I'm never really lost along the way

The heart may break but it keeps on beating
'Cause it can't stop needing love
Then along the way after so much lonely
Somebody makes you smile
Somebody sees you shining
Like a diamond in the rough

REPEAT CHORUS

In the hollow of my heart
There's always hope

REPEAT CHORUS
3. Something To Be Said
Something To Be Said

By Steve Seskin and Randy Sharp

So how was your day
You say it was fine
As you're walkin' away
You ask about mine
We need to talk
Got some things to work out
You say let's don't get into that now

CHORUS:
There's something to be said for conversation
That's careful not to hurt or cut too deep
But this time nothing short of confrontation
Will shake us from our sleep
We say true love is what we're after
Well only heartbreak lies ahead
If we settle for this silence
When there's something to be said

Now we could keep goin'
As if nothin's wrong
But I guess my question is
For how long?
This isn't fair
To you or to me
This is no place for our love to be

REPEAT CHORUS

Make me angry
I can take it
I know my heart
The truth won't break it

There's something to be said for conversation
That's careful not to hurt or cut too deep
But this time nothing short of confrontation
Will shake us from our sleep
We say true love is what we're after
I still believe it lies ahead
It's time to break this silence
There's something to be said
4. God's Same Sky
God's Same Sky

By Steve Seskin and Dean Miller

She was sittin' at the counter eatin' breakfast by herself
She was gettin' up in years and well to do
A different color stranger came walkin' through the door
When he sat down beside her she held her purse a little tighter

He pretended not to notice it's just easier that way
But I could see the pain in his eyes
'Cause this was not the first time and it won't be the last
And it made me so angry and it made me wanna say

CHORUS:
Under God's same sky we are born to love
Yet we spend our lives so full of fear so quick to judge
In a world with so much hurt and hatred
I still believe it's human nature to be kind
We all live and die
Under God's same sky

She coughed up her last quarter and sat down on the bus
She was broken disheveled and a little high
Some of us were starin' and some looked the other way
I can't say it makes me proud but I just joined that crowd

Then I started thinkin' what if I was in her place
Fate might put me there some day who knows
I was tryin' to see the beauty underneath her tattered soul
When the truth spoke to me and I stood up and said hello 'cause

REPEAT CHORUS

Do unto others
It's better to give
What goes around comes around
Live and let live

5. Scarlet Rain
Scarlet Rain

By Steve Seskin and John Scott Sherrill

Girl I'm standing here
Knee deep in winter
There's not a sound and the air is cold and still
I should head back to my car and go on home
And any minute now I guess I will

Not that long ago we walked this path together
The sun cast dappled shadows on your skin
Now there's not a trace of autumn's flaming glory
And the trees are standing naked in the wind

CHORUS:
The snow lies on these hills like sheets of linen
And only the memory remains
How the breeze was blowin' and the leaves were fallin'
And love was callin' our name
I can still see you and me
Standing in that scarlet rain

As the leaves came tumbling down around us
You fell into my arms and then we kissed
I must have had a reason to come way out here
But for the life of me I don't know what it is
I just know I can't stand seeing it like this

REPEAT CHORUS

The breeze was blowin' and the leaves were fallin'
And love was callin' our name
I can still see you and me
Standing in that scarlet rain

I can still see you and me
Standing in that scarlet rain
6. A Little Love
A Little Love

By Steve Seskin and Terry Burns

This morning I was thinking about my fifth grade teacher
Wishing I had some way to reach her
If it weren't for her I wonder where I'd be
I was full of self doubt and painfully shy
Skating through school barely getting by
But she saw something in me
She was tough but she was so kind
What a difference she made in my life

CHORUS:
A little love goes a long way
A little love goes a long way
A little love goes a long way

My brother called me up last night
From out of nowhere to apologize
For how he treated me when we were kids
At that moment after all those years
All my anger disappeared
I found the freedom to forgive
It's a miracle, one phone call
And crashing to the ground came a million walls

REPEAT CHORUS

There's old people sitting around in nursing homes
Who'd give anything for a hand to hold
And a good conversation
There's kids in every kind of neighborhood
Who feel invisible and misunderstood
All they really need is some validation
Gonna take some time, let my heart show
Plant a seed and watch it grow

REPEAT CHORUS
7. You Never Know How Soon
You Never Know How Soon

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

My dad, he's a tough one
He grew up hard, it left its mark
He and I had a rough one
But I know he tried to raise me right
I've never told him I love him
I guess pride got in the way
But sittin' here watchin' this sun go down
I'm thinkin' I'd better tell him today
'Cause you never know how soon it's gonna be too late

My wife gave me children
A girl and boy, my pride and joy
I love bein' with them
Yeah I work hard but my real job
Is makin' sure that I make the time
When they say, Daddy, come out and play
'Cause I know they'll go from flyin' that kite with me
To flyin' away
Yeah, you never know how soon it's gonna be too late

Time is like a window
It opens and it closes
Chances come and go just like the wind
Life is so uncertain
If we don't seize the moments
Can we truly rest in peace in the end

Tonight I'm feeling good
I called my dad and he didn't get mad
We talked and then we laughed
Cleared the air he really does care
When he opened his heart to me
I knew just what to say
I told him I love him
And a burden fell away
Don't make forgiveness wait
'Cause you never know how soon it's gonna be too late
8. Someday He's Gonna Love You For It
Someday He's Gonna Love You For It

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

I tell him five times to pick up his toys
Put 'em where they belong
He just stands there lookin' at me like I'm the enemy
What am I doin' wrong
Dad why do I feel so bad about groundin' him
In my heart I know he's cryin' out for discipline
And he said, "Son if you don't lick this now it'll just get harder
I know you wanna be his friend but you have to be his father"

CHORUS:
Someday he's gonna love you for it
Someday he'll be glad you took the time
Seems easier to ignore it
But it'll just haunt you down the line
Right now he's hurt and angry
And you're the reason he's disappointed
But he needs you to set some boundaries
Someday he's gonna love you for it

Do you remember when you and your friends
For the fun of it stole my car
For one month you came home from school, went straight to your room
And there was no playin' that guitar
You might think that was an easy thing for me to do
But let me tell you it hurt me 'bout as much as it hurt you
I'm proud to see the man that you've become
And I want you to do your best to make a man of my grandson

REPEAT CHORUS

If you don't lick this now it'll just get harder
More than a friend he need you to be his father

Someday he's gonna love you for it
Someday he'll be glad you took the time
Someday you'll sit around laughin'
'Bout how you used to make him toe the line
Trust me he won't always show it
But deep down he adores you
Right now he's too young to know it
But someday he's gonna love you for it
9. I Don't Wanna Fall From Here
I Don't Wanna Fall From Here

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

Halfway up a fifty foot maple
Straddlin' a limb, wonderin' if I'm able
Had a hammer in one hand, board in the other
Tryin' not to listen to my loud-mouthed brother, yellin'
It's a long way down
And this is some real hard ground
That tree house seemed like a good idea
From the pillow of my bunkbed
But up that high there was just one thing
Runnin' through my head
I don't wanna fall from here
I don't wanna fall from here

Twenty thousand feet and we're still climbin'
Bouncin' off the clouds the engine's whinin'
How did I get stuck with this window seat
My sister keeps sayin', Mom this is so neat
I'm sayin', I'm too young
And just as that prayer left my tongue
The captain said, Better buckle up
We're flyin' into a storm
I latched onto my momma
Tight as the day that I was born, said
I don't wanna fall from here

I've never been this high
Up where the bravest birds fly
I'm tryin' hard to let go of my fear
But I don't wanna fall from here

It's been a long time since I've felt that feeling
My heart is pounding sure as I'm here kneeling
Gotta diamond in my pocket a question in my mouth
Any second now it's gonna pop right out
I'm thinkin' you'll say yes
Either way I'm scared to death
I'm sittin' here on top of the world
And it's all because of you
For the first time in my life
I've got somethin' to lose
I don't wanna fall from here
I don't wanna fall from here

I've never been this high
Up where the bravest birds fly
Your eyes are tellin' me to have no fear
That I'm not gonna fall from here
You won't let me fall from here
10. I Want You Back
I Want You Back

By Steve Seskin and Tom Douglas

This ain't some conversation from a couple of six packs
And this ain't some crazy notion of a wild maniac
It's just a plain and simple fact

CHORUS:
I want you
I want you
I want you back
And I want you to forgive me
I wanna start over again
If it's not too much to ask
I want you
And I want you to want me back

I know I broke your heart and I can't change that
But there's a new shine to my shoes yeah I've cleaned up my act
And I would tie myself to some railroad tracks
Just to prove to you baby
I want you
I want you back

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
The truth is I'd do whatever it takes
To change the mind of the hands of fate
You haven't said no maybe you'll say yes
I've already confessed

REPEAT CHORUS
11. I Love My Life
I Love My Life

By Steve Seskin and Tom Douglas

Jimmy's the mechanic at Rocco's Paint and Body Shop
Smokes non-filtered Camels, drinks his lunch at the Oasis
And listens to classic rock
Says Darrell Waltrip is the gospel
You can bet that he'll get hostile
If you mention his first ex-wife
And at the end of the day
He just smiles and says, "I love my life"

I love my life
I love my life
I like football, coveralls, a greasy engine overhaul
And a twelve-pack of cold Bud Lite
I love my life

Diana works on Wall Street, she's a mover she's a shaker, dresses to the nines
Drive a gold-plated Lexus, she only eats at restaurants
Where you need a reservation and she gets one every time
She quotes the Dalai Lama
Understands Italian opera
Volunteers at the Junior League on Thursday nights
And at the end of every day
She just smiles and says, "I love my life"

I love my life
I love my life
The Hamptons, handsome men, sailin' on a summer wind
Vintage wine, red or white
I love my life

Me I'm Mr. Middle Class workin' hard to keep the wolf away from my door
Savin' for college educations, I get one two-week vacation
And we always take it at the Gulf Shore
Third grade school plays
Saturday soccer games
Seein' movies with my pretty wife
I love my life

I love my life
I love my life
I'm a young soul, rollin' stone, I'm not afraid of growin' old
Brother you got that right
I love my life

1. New Orleans
New Orleans

By Steve Seskin, Bob DiPiero and Mark Sanders

He was twenty five she was twenty eight
He was home grown she'd just pulled off the interstate
She bought a small Dr. Pepper ten dollars worth of gas
She was obviously lost but too afraid to ask directions
So he offered her a smile and a stick of Beechnut gum
He said where you headed to where are you coming from (she said)

CHORUS:
New Orleans
But that's another story
New Orleans
That's another time, that's another town
That's another life

She stayed for a day then she stayed for a week
Couple months later they were living on his parents street
He worked the station she worked the store
Then they had a kid and then they had one more little Jesse
When she dropped the kids off at mother's day out
All the ladies had their questions but they knew not to ask about

REPEAT CHORUS

Wednesday night supper, first Baptist church
Stranger standing in a door way as they're passing out desert
He said go on and pack your bags I'm here to take you home
Going back to louisiana and woman I ain't gonna go without you

Now there's a few defining moments in every persons life
When you know what you've done wrong
And you know what you've done right
Before the whole congregation, her husband and her kids
She said how dare you even speak to me
After everything you did in

REPEAT CHORUS
2. Touch the Stars
Touch the Stars

By Steve Seskin and Sonia Rutstein

Yellow and blue make green
I'm painting somebody's American dream now
High on my ladder I've one more wall
Going through the motions but I'm not here at all

CHORUS:
I drag a brush across a page
And for a moment I forget
That I am living in a cage
Of time, of lines
Where nothing's mine
And all I wanna do is touch the stars

Indigo and violet make sky
The moon and her madness are totally mine now
No borders, no boundaries and no rules to break
The dawn of creation, beauty for beauty's sake

REPEAT CHORUS

Finding a balance that's fair
I can be here long as I can go there

REPEAT CHORUS

I drag a brush across a page and for a moment I forget
3. All I Can Do
All I Can Do

By Steve Seskin and Tom Douglas

Baby just close your eyes
Let's put this day to bed
I wish I could quiet all those voices in your head
It's startin' to pour out there
Listen to that old tin roof
But this storm is gonna pass
Just hold on to me I'll hold on to you

CHORUS:
I can't stop the rain from fallin'
I can't make all our dreams come true
But I will always give all my love to you
That's all I can do
That's all I can do

I used to really think
I could keep you safe from harm
The truth is all I can do is try to keep you safe and warm
The sun's gonna paint the sky
Or go hiding behind the clouds
The only forever we have
Is lying here right here and now

REPEAT CHORUS

All I can do is dry your tears
Calm your fears baby I'm right here

REPEAT CHORUS
4. Don't Laugh At Me
Don't Laugh At Me

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

I'm a little boy with glasses
The one they call a geek
A little girl who never smiles
'Cause I've got braces on my teeth
And I know how it feels
To cry myself to sleep
I'm that kid on every playground
Who's always chosen last
A single teenage mother
Tryin' to overcome my past
You don't have to be my friend
But is it too much to ask?

CHORUS:
Don't laugh at me don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In god's eyes we're all the same
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me

I'm the cripple on the corner
You've passed me on the street
And I wouldn't be out here begging
If I had enough to eat
Don't think I don't notice
That our eyes never meet
I lost my wife and little boy
When someone crossed that yellow line
The day we laid them in the ground
Is the day I lost my mind
Right now I'm down to holdin'
This little cardboard sign

REPEAT CHORUS

I'm fat
I'm thin
I'm short
I'm tall
I'm deaf
I'm blind
Hey aren't we all?

REPEAT CHORUS
5. Michaelangelo
Michaelangelo

By Steve Seskin and Georgia Middleman

I saw this kid in New York City
On 42nd Street
Using colored chalk on a sidewalk canvas
He was drawin' a masterpiece
As a crowd gathered 'round to applaud his work
A policeman came by and acted like a jerk
He said, "This is public property
And you've got five minutes to erase that thing." I thought

CHORUS:

I'd like to see you go tell that to Michaelangelo
Tell him he can paint his little pictures
But don't paint on the ceiling
Don't really let your feelings show
I'd like to see you go tell that to Michaelangelo

I've got this friend she's a real firecracker
And the sweetest soul I know
The problem is she's got this boyfriend
Who tries to keep her in tow
Says she cries too hard, she laughs too loud
Hey ain't that what life is all about
If I could give him a piece of my mind
When he tells her she's the emotional kind, I'd say

CHORUS:

Better stick to black and white
There's too much color in your sky

REPEAT CHORUS
6. Wasn't That Just Last Night?
Wasn't That Just Last Night?

By Steve Seskin and John Scott Sherrill

Tell me how with just one look
You took my breath away
How could it be that just one kiss
From your sweet lips would make me have to say
That I'm not the same man I was before
And I don't want to live without you anymore

CHORUS:
Long ago I was a lonely soul
I was just holding on for dear life
Gone astray trying to find my way
With no yellow brick road in sight
Wasn't that just
Wasn't that just last night

Did we really take that moonlit walk
Did we talk until the break of dawn
What did I see in your eyes
That made me feel like I'd just been reborn
These moments with you make it seem
Like yesterday's nothing but a distant dream

REPEAT CHORUS
7. We Came Close
We Came Close

By Steve Seskin and Cathy Majeski

This house is not the same without you here
You made it a home that's all too clear
I know we said good-bye
But I'm still not sure why
And I can't help but cry these tears

CHORUS:
'Cause we came close
To holding forever in our hands
It was right there in our grasp
We came close
To what every woman and man wants to find
A love that will last
What hurts the most
Is we came close

I wasn't always there I know that's true
But maybe you were guilty of that too
It wasn't a perfect love
But did we try hard enough
Maybe we just gave up too soon

REPEAT CHORUS

Am I the only one
With second thoughts
Am I the only one
Who thinks this love isn't lost

'Cause we came close
To holding forever in our hands
It was right there in our grasp
We came close
To what ever a woman and man wants to find
A love that will last
And if there's no hope
Then what hurts the most
Is we came close
8. And Then I Wake Up
And Then I Wake Up

By Steve Seskin, Lisa Drew and Shaye Smith

Your breath on my skin gives my heart a thrill
You whisper you love me and you always will
A beautiful moment I'll treasure for life
The candle burns down, your lips touch mine

And then I wake up
And I remember that you left me yesterday
It's just my dog buck
He's lyin' there lickin' me on my face
I wanna pull up the covers
And go back to sleep
Cause my life is not nearly
As sweet as my dreams

My boss thinks I'm perfect wants to give me a raise
My own corner office with a view of the bay
He wishes he had three more just like me
Hands me a check and the executive washroom key

And then I wake up
He says I told you I needed that yesterday
You're slow as a slug
I've decided that I'm gonna dock your pay
I wanna pull up the covers
And go back to sleep
Cause my life is not nearly
As sweet as my dreams

The phone rings it's my mother
It's been quite a while
She said you've always been my favorite child
No one has a clue but I'm worth 2 or 3 mill
And you're the only one I've named in my will

And then I wake up
And she's nagging me like she does every day
She's down on her luck
Can I send her some money when I get paid
I wanna pull up the covers
And go back to sleep
Cause my life is not nearly
As sweet as my dreams

My mechanic says no charge
This one's on me
9. Cactus in a Coffee Can
Cactus in a Coffee Can

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

She had the window and I had the aisle
She looked 25 but she was shakin' like a child when we took off
I looked over and clutched in her hands
There was a cactus in a coffee can
She was holdin' that thing like it was all she had
She smiled at me but I could tell she was sad

Somewhere over denver I asked her her name
She said, "Elena," then told me she came from Santa Fe
She ordered a drink and a wall came down
Yeah she started talkin' and pain poured out
She told me a story I'll never forget
She had me in tears when she looked at me and said

"My mama's first love was crack
She made her livin' lyin' on her back
She gave me away on the day that I was born"

She said, "The last 10 years I've spent trackin' her down
It just don't seem fair that when I finally found her she was almost gone
We had two weeks together to laugh and to cry
Two weeks to say hello and goodbye
She gave me this little cactus, said it's kinda like me,
It'll hurt you to hold it but it blooms every spring

Now I'm on my way back to New Mexico
Was gonna scatter her ashes where the desert winds blow
But I came up with a better plan
Gonna keep 'em in the bottom of this coffee can

My mama was a tortured soul
But I still love her even though
She gave me away on the day that I was born"

The plane touched down and we both got off
I took her hand, said, "sorry for your loss."
She said, "thanks for listenin', for bein' here
"I've been wantin' to talk about her for so many years"

Now I'll probably never see Elena again
But we met as strangers and parted as friends
As we waved goodbye I was sure of one thing
There'll be a flower on that cactus come next spring
10. I Mean Well
I Mean Well

By Steve Seskin and Mark Allen Springer

Sorry baby I know I'm late
I wanted this to be the perfect date
I could blame it on the interstate
But I'm not going to
Did you know all four flower shops
Close up at five o'clock
I hate to say it but I ain't got
A single rose for you
The only thing that matters now
Is once again I let you down (but)

CHORUS:
I mean well
I hope you know
You're everything to me
Baby nothing else comes close
Even though sometimes I know I end up hurting you
That's the last thing in the world I wanna do
Even when it's hard to tell
I mean well

While I was sitting in that traffic jam
Got to thinkin' how lucky I am
Wishing I could always be the man
You deserve
But no matter how hard I try
There's gonna be times like tonight
When nothing I can say can make it right
And that hurts
When my head is buried in the sand
When it looks like I don't have a plan

REPEAT CHORUS

You're everything to me
Baby nothing else comes close
Even when it's hard to tell
I mean well
11. Nothing But Time
Nothing But Time

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

I am eighty-one years old
Anymore nothing's like it used to be
Most of all me
My Elizabeth is gone
But her memory keeps me strong
I stare at her picture
My mind drifts away
And it feels like I'm with her
Lost in yesterday

I am twenty-three years old
Comin' home, taking off my uniform
After the war
Lizzy is standing on the pier
I can see her smile from here
We found an apartment
Our place in the sun
And three children later
We're still like two kids in love

CHORUS:
I can't believe how much it hurts
To be the one left behind
I always thought I'd go first
Now I'm left with nothing but time

When you're young you can't picture the end of the line
You run around thinkin' you've got nothing but time

I am sixty-four years old
And you know in seven months I can retire
It's down to the wire
We're busy makin' travel plans
Second honeymoon in France
The neighborhood's changing
The kids are all grown
Me and the misses
Have learned to love our time alone

REPEAT CHORUS
12. 'Til It's All Gone
'Til It's All Gone

By Steve Seskin and Leslie Ellis

You don't have to say a word
From the sigh that I just heard
I can tell you've had one of those days
Baby you can talk to me
Or we can sit here quietly
Just let go it'll be ok

CHORUS:
I'm here now to hold you through the laughter and the tears
I'm here now to chase away your fears
When you get your scrapes and bruises
When the world simply refuses
Baby I will love you through whatever's wrong
'Til it's all gone
'Til it's all gone

Sometimes I wonder where I'd be
If you hadn't wanted me
I was lost and alone, so blue
Never felt I fit in
Never thought I'd have the chance to give
All my love to someone like you

REPEAT CHORUS

When you get your scrapes and bruises
When the world simple refuses
Baby I will love you through whatever's wrong
'Til it's all gone
'Til it's all gone

All gone
All gone

Something Real

1. Something Real
Something Real

I used to worship the almighty dollar
I thought it would fill this hole in me and I'd be satisfied
I was a thirsty man dying for water
Drinkin' from a well that always left me dry

CHORUS:
I'm lookin' for something I can really sink my teeth into
Something that shakes my soul and makes me really feel
Yeah what I'm lookin' for
All I want anymore
Is something deep, something ancient, something righteous
Something real

I'm tired of all the shallow conversations
Meaningless noise in a fast food world
Where's the heart and the true inspiration
I won't stand for mediocrity or artificial pearls

CHORUS

BRIDGE:
It all comes down to love
For yourself, for your family and your friends
By the grace of God above
Let's get down to the things that matter

2. All About to Change
All About to Change

By Steve Seskin and John Scott Sherrill

There’s been a dark cloud on my soul
And that old north wind just keeps on blowin’
Frozen to the bone
It took all I had to keep on goin’
Up against the night
Losin’ the fight

But that’s all about to change
Just like winter into spring
The birds have been there all along
But now I hear them sing
Every time you call my name
The sun breaks through again
Those old gray days were all the same but that’s
All about to change

Oh the warm light of your eyes
Has melted all the years of sorrow
For the first time in a while
i can’t wait until tomorrow
I was so alone
So far from home

But that’s all about to change
Just like winter into spring
The birds have been there all along
But now I hear them sing
Every time you call my name
The sun breaks through again
Those old gray days were all the same but that’s
All about to change

Up against the night
Losin’ the fight

But that’s all about to change
Just like winter into spring
The birds have been there all along
But now I hear them sing
Every time you call my name
The sun breaks through again
Those old gray days were all the same but that’s
All about to change
Yea those old gray days were all the same
But that’s all about to change
3. Love Can Do It All
Love Can Do It All

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

It can take you to the mountaintop
Make your troubles seem so small
It can be the key to every lock
Love can do it all

It can break right through the hardest heart
Tear down any wall
Give a broken soul a brand new start
Love can do it all

When your dreams have all but died
It can bring ‘em back to life
If you’ll just answer when it calls
Love can do it all

Might shoot its arrow at a boy and girl
Then catch ‘em when they fall
Bring a baby child into this world
Love can do it all

It can find you when you’re eighty-five
Have you bouncing like a ball
Put the light back in an old man’s eyes
Love can do it all

When your dreams have all but died
It can bring ‘em back to life
If you’ll just answer when it calls
Love can do it all
4. It's a Jungle Out Here
It's a Jungle Out Here

By Steve Seskin and Craig Carothers

WHEN YOU INSISTED THAT I SLEEP IN THE YARD
I LAUGHED PRETTY HARD
FOR A LITTLE WHILE
BUT YOU WEREN’T FOOLIN’ NOW I’M HERE ON THE LAWN
AND ‘THOUGH ADMITTING I’M WRONG
IS NOT MY STYLE

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
I WON’T MAKE IT ‘TILL DAWN
AND THOUGH I’M RIGHT WHERE I BELONG
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE

I SHOULDA BUILT THAT PATIO AND BOUGHT THAT CHAISE LOUNGE
I WOULDN’T BE HERE ON THE GROUND
WITH THE SNAILS AND SLUGS
I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE PROBABLY WATCHIN’ TV
NOT EVEN THINKIN’ ‘BOUT ME
BUT I’M THINKIN’ ‘BOUT YOU MY LOVE

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
PLEASE LET ME BACK IN
DON’T LEAVE ME TWISTIN’ IN THIS WIND
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE

I’D SLEEP IN THE DOG HOUSE
BUT HE SEES IT YOUR WAY TOO
SO MUCH FOR MAN’S BEST FRIEND

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
THERE’S A WHOLE LOTTA WILD LIFE
THEY’RE CREEPIN’ AND CRAWLIN’
THE MERCURY’S FALLIN’
IT’S GONNA BE A LONG NIGHT
I WON’T MAKE IT ‘TILL DAWN
AND OK I’M RIGHT WHERE I BELONG
HAVE MERCY MY DEAR
IT’S A JUNGLE OUT HERE
5. Use Mine
Use Mine

By Steve Seskin and Lisa Drew

I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD
WE WERE POOR AS DIRT
MOM WAS PREGNANT WITH MY SISTER
ND DAD WAS OUT OF WORK
I WANTED A BICYCLE
TO RIDE WITH MY FRIENDS
A SHINY WESTERN FLYER
IN CANDY-APPLE RED
I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND
WHY THAT BIKE NEVER CAME
BUT MONEY CAN'T BUY
WHAT I GOT IN ITS PLACE
DAD TIED WOODEN BLOCKS
TO THE PEDALS OF HIS SCHWINN
ROLLED OUT THAT KLUNKER
AND SAID WITH A GRIN

CHORUS:
USE MINE, GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT
WHAT ELSE IS IT FOR?
I WISH I COULD DO MORE
JUST GO SLOW
YOU'RE GONNA DO FINE
THIS IS WHAT LIFE'S ALL ABOUT
USE MINE

SENIOR PROM
I WAS SCARED TO DEATH
BUT I FINALLY CALLED UP JULIE ANN
AND SHE SAID YES
ON TOP OF THE WORLD
WHEN THE BIG NIGHT ARRIVED
'TIL SUDDENLY IT DAWNED ON ME
WHAT I HAD TO DRIVE
MY RUSTY BLUE DODGE
HAD ONE ORANGE DOOR
RIPS IN THE SEATS
AND A HOLE IN THE FLOOR
I LOOKED AT MY DAD
AND HIS NEW MERCURY
AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT
WHEN HE TOSSED ME THE KEY

REPEAT CHORUS

NOW I'M SITTIN' HERE STARIN' AT MY OLD MAN
THE DOCTORS DON'T GIVE HIM MUCH TIME
HE'S TRYIN' TO STAND UP BUT HIS STRENGTH IS ALL GONE
SO I SAY TO MY HERO AS I OFFER MY ARM

REPEAT CHORUS

THIS IS WHAT LIFE'S ALL ABOUT
EVERYTHING COMES BACK AROUND
6. Then There's You
Then There's You

By Steve Seskin, Paul Young and Pat Macdonald

Another Monday morning
Gotta clear my head
No more time for dreaming
Traffic was a nightmare
The boss is on my back
If I hear one more cross word
I think I’m gonna crack

Then there’s you
Comin’ in right on cue
When I say no can do
You give me strength to fight
To see a new shade of blue
Everything’s black and white
And then there’s you

The sky is clear this morning
Looks like a brighter day
And I don’t need to worry
When it fades away

‘Cause then there’s you
Comin’ in right on cue
When I say no can do
You give me strength to fight
To see a new shade of blue
Everything’s black and white
And then there’s you

You, you keep me warm when nights are cold
You, you light a fire in my soul

Then there’s you
Comin’ in right on cue
When I say no can do
You give me strength to fight
To see a new shade of blue
Everything’s black and white
And then there’s you
7. When The Chain Links Up Again
When The Chain Links Up Again

By Steve Seskin and John Scott Sherrill

Late last night I happened to find
An old picture of me and you
We were smiling for the camera, hanging out together
On the hood of your Malibu
Never again can we do that
I can talk to you but you can’t talk back

‘Til the chain links up again
And we find those pieces we left scattered on the wind

You know I love you, I often think of you
There was so much I wanted to say
But I never got to it, you were gone before I knew it
So I guess I’m gonna have to wait
‘Til there’s flowers growin’ around my stone
And the heavenly angels call me home

When the chain links up again
And we find those pieces we left scattered on the wind
One of these days I’m going to turn around
And you’ll be standing right beside me my friend
When the chain links up again
8. One Mississippi
One Mississippi

By Steve Seskin, Bob DiPiero and Mark D. Sanders

When your daddy summoned you home
I said, “Baby go on, go.”
So you spiffed up the house, kissed me on the mouth
And headed down to Tupelo
Now you’re sleepin’ in your old bed
And eatin’ mama’s corn bread
I’m cussin’ the clock and watchin’ my watch

The seconds turn to minutes
The minutes into hours
The hours into long, lonely days
This waitin’ on you, darlin’
Is takin’ all my will power
I keep countin’ all the moments you’re away
One Mississippi, two Mississippi
Without you, girl, I’m blue Mississippi

Got a bad case of missin’ you
Yeah, honey, and the dog does, too
I can’t sleep and he can’t sleep
So we’re just howlin’ at the moon
Reckon we’ll be seein’ you again
When your daddy says, “when”
Reckon we’ll hear knock knock ‘stead of tick tock

The seconds turn to minutes
The minutes into hours
The hours into long, lonely days
This waitin’ on you, darlin’
Is takin’ all my will power
I keep countin’ all the moments you’re away
One Mississippi, two Mississippi
Without you, girl, I’m blue Mississippi
9. No Man's Land
No Man's Land

By Steve Seskin and John Scott Sherrill

That house on the hill is long gone
Now she’s living in a trailer with an astroturf lawn
She’s got three little kids, no one to help
Trying to be momma and daddy all by herself
It’s hard to hold down the fort when you’re holding down a job
She’d rob Peter to pay Paul but he’s aready been robbed
She gets the food on the table, the clothes off the line
She’d break down and cry but she doesn’t have time

She’s gotta be strong
Life goes on
‘Though it’s nothing like she had planned
She’s gonna be ok
Gonna find a way
Livin’ in no man’s land

Every now and then late at night
She thinks how good it would feel to hold someone tight
There’s a guy down at work keeps calling her up
But she ain’t ready for none of that stuff
She’s still sifting through the ashes of a love that’s been and gone
Looking for a clue, trying to find out what went wrong
It ain’t always easy but she knows she’s gotta try
Every time she looks into her babies’ eyes

She’s gotta be strong
Life goes on
‘Though it’s nothing like she had planned
She’s gonna be ok
Gonna find a way
Livin’ in no man’s land
10. Something of Yours
Something of Yours

By Steve Seskin and Stacy Worthington

Harsh words between us, teardrops in your eyes
Misunderstanding doesn’t mean goodbye
Every time we cross this bridge we get a little closer
To finding out what true love’s all about

In the course of a lifetime
There’s bound to be some storms
And there’ll be times we find ourselves
On separate shores
But darlin’, trust in me
My heart will always be
Something of yours

The sky wouldn’t be the same without the moon above
And I can’t imagine life without your love
Better that we feel like we can always talk things over
Silence only leads to someone walking out

In the course of a lifetime
There’s bound to be some storms
And there’ll be times we find ourselves
On separate shores
But darlin’, trust in me
My heart will always be
Something of yours

Every time we cross this bridge we get a little closer
To finding out what true love’s all about

In the course of a lifetime
There’s bound to be some storms
And there’ll be times we find ourselves
On separate shores
But darlin’, trust in me
My heart will always be
Something of yours
11. Just For The Fun of It
Just For The Fun of It

By Steve Seskin and Angela Kaset

Red light, green light, one two three
Kick the can and hide and go seek
Throwin’ a stick for my dog BIll
Sittin’ on cardboard, slidin’ down the hill

Makin’ up songs that didn’t make sense
Conversations with invisible friends
Sneakin’ that batter from the cookie bowl
Pushin’ my sister in the swimmin’ hole
When I was a kid
Seems like everything I did was

Just for the fun of it
Just ‘cause it made me smile
I had a big imagination and I
Let it run wild
Just ‘cause I wanted to
For no other reason why
I was livin'’ every day of my life
Just for the fun of it

Red light, green light, traffic jam
Do my job, stick to the plan
Just tryin’ to keep up with the push and pull
When did my life get so predictable?
I think I’ll just go fly a kite
Take a red Ferrari for a little test drive
Get back in touch with my easy chair
Watch Godzilla in my underwear
I’ve got a mind
To spend a little time

Just for the fun of it
Just ‘cause it makes me smile
I’ve got a big imagination and I’m gonna
Let it run wild
Just ‘cause I want to
For no other reason why
I’m gonna spend a little bit of my life
Just a little bit of my life
Just for the fun of it
12. Beautiful Fool
Beautiful Fool

By Don Henry

Martin Luther
Who did you think that you were
Appointed by some higher up?
Merely mortal
Your plans were unaffordable
No one wants to pay for love

Oh you beautiful fool
Swimmin’ upstream
Kickin’ up waves
Dreams weren’t meant to come true
That’s why they call them dreams
Oh you beautiful fool

Walter Cronkite
Pre-empted Disney one night
All us kids were so upset
We thought that you were
A trouble instigator
Marching through our tv sets

Oh you beautiful fool
Swimmin’ upstream
Kickin’ up waves
Dreams weren’t meant to come true
That’s why they call them dreams
Oh you beautiful fool

To fight a fight without a fist
All human instinct puzzles this
How dare you threaten our existence?
Mahatma Ghandi, Jesus Christ
History repeats itself so nice
Consistently we are resistant to love
I saw you on
The black and white
With blacks and whites applauding you
I saw you on
Another night
Without a sign of life in you

Oh you beautiful fool
Swimmin’ upstream
Kickin’ up waves
Dreams weren’t meant to come true
That’s why they call them dreams
Oh you beautiful fool
13. Love is All That Matters
Love is All That Matters

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

There I am sittin' on my grandma’s steps
Wonderin’ what trouble I could get in next
A freckle-faced with with a snow cone smile
Not a worry in the world
Would you look at my mom in that big yellow hat
what was she thinkin; wearin'; something like that?
I still remember her tryin’ to fix my hair
Like I was her little girl

A simple photograph
A memory in black and white
That always makes me laugh or makes me cry
An eight by ten reminder
That time is such a precious thing
That life is always movin’ us along
And love is all that matters when we’re gone

A year after that was taken we pulled up roots
Had to leave behind the only world I knew
Me with my little nose pressed against the glass
As our Rambler rolled away
I called my grandma every Sunday night
Made those nine hundred miles almost seem all right
She’d say, “I’ll see you next summer, I can hardly wait.”
That summer never came

A simple photograph
A memory in black and white
That always makes me laugh or makes me cry
An eight by ten reminder
That time is such a precious thing
That life is always movin’ us along
And love is all that matters when we’re gone

I’ve been starin’ at this picture for fifteen minutes
Wonderin’ what happened to that little boy in it
The freckle-faced kid with the snow cone smile
Not a worry in the world
Now I’m late for a meeting that started at eight
Gonna pick up the phone and tell ‘em not to wait
Gonna run upstairs and put my arms
Around our little girl

A simple photograph
A memory in black and white
That always makes me laugh or makes me cry
An eight by ten reminder
That time is such a precious thing
That life is always movin’ us along
And love is all that matters when we’re gone
Debut album that was produced by Craig Carothers, it features Tim Ellis on guitar and many of Portland's finest session musicians.

1. Life's a Dance
Life's a Dance

By Steve Seskin and Allen Shamblin

WHEN I WAS FOURTEEN I WAS FALLIN' FAST
FOR A BLUE EYED GIRL IN MY HOMEROOM CLASS
TRYIN’ TO FIND THE COURAGE TO ASK HER OUT
WAS LIKE TRYIN’ TO FIND OIL FROM A WATER SPOUT
WHAT SHE WOULD HAVE SAID I CAN’T SAY
I NEVER DID ASK, SHE MOVED AWAY
BUT I LEARNED SOMETHIN' FROM MY BLUE EYED GIRL
SINK OR SWIM YOU’VE GOTTA GIVE IT A WHIRL

CHORUS:
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO
SOMETIMES YOU LEAD, SOMETIMES YOU FOLLOW
DON’T WORRY ‘BOUT WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO

THE LONGER I LIVE THE MORE I BELIEVE
YOU DO HAVE TO GIVE IF YOU WANNA RECEIVE
THERE’S A TIME TO LISTEN, A TIME TO TALK
AND YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CRAWL EVEN AFTER YOU WALK
I’VE HAD SURE THINGS BLOW UP IN MY FACE
SEEN THE LONG SHOT WIN THE RACE
BEEN KNOCKED DOWN BY THE SLAMMIN’ DOOR
PICKED MYSELF UP AND CAME BACK FOR MORE

REPEAT CHORUS

DON’T WORRY ‘BOUT WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
LIFE’S A DANCE YOU LEARN AS YOU GO
2. Holdin' On
Holdin' On

By Steve Seskin and Buddy Mondlock

There’s a scary silence between us
Like I’ve never heard before
There’s an easy conversation we don’t have no more
And I wonder if you can remember
The girl I can’t forget
Way back when we hadn’t told our secrets yet

I’m holdin’ on
Can’t say she’s gone

How do you know when it’s time to let go
When does the heart say I told you so

As I watch you stare out the window
With the sunlight on your hair
I think how much I love that person lying there
But there’s an unmistakable distance
‘Cross this bed nobody made
Could it be that love is simply meant to fade?

I’m holdin’ on
Can’t say it’s gone

How do you know when it’s time to let go
When does the heart say I told you so
How do you know when it’s time to let go
When to give in to the undertow

I’m holdin’ on
Can’t say I’m gone
3. Chance to Shine
Chance to Shine

By Steve Seskin & Allen Shamblin

Joe was no good for nothin’, or so it appeared
From his trash can shoes to his overgrown beard
His address was a sidewalk in front of some store
Where most of his time he spent bein’ ignored

One day the owner said, “I’ll make you a deal
“Sweep the sidewalk each mornin’ and you can count on your meals.”
Joe looked in his eyes and said, “When can I start?”
A little light in a life that had fallen apart

Every heart needs a chance to shine
To somewhere down the line
We’re all meant to write on the pages of time
Every heart needs a chance to shine

Joe took to that task like he was born with that broom
He polished that pavement like a fine silver spoon
One day the owner said, “Come on inside
“I put a cot in the storeroom where you can sleep if you’d like.”

That was all that he needed to grow a little bit more
Soon Joe got a job stockin’ shelves in that store
Walk down any aisle, not a can out of place
The beginnings of greatness from a once hopeless case

Every heart needs a chance to shine
To somewhere down the line
We’re all meant to write on the pages of time
Every heart needs a chance to shine

Years later a drifter sat camped by the door
Said, “Can I see the manager? I’m hungry and poor.”
Joe looked in his eyes and said, “I’ll make you a deal
“Sweep the sidewalk each mornin’ and you can count on your meals.”

Every heart needs a chance to shine
To somewhere down the line
We’re all meant to write on the pages of time
Every heart needs a chance to shine
4. I Don't Wanna Live Like This
I Don't Wanna Live Like This

By Steve Seskin and Joe Photoglo

Starin’ in the mirror, scared to death
I can hardly catch my breath
So afraid if I speak my mind
That you’ll just leave this love behind

I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that
We’ve been livin’ in a silent storm
Baby where did we go wrong
And how do we get back?
I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that

Tell me all the ways I let you down
Better than carryin’ the weight around
We can work it out, or walk away
Or waste another precious day

I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that
We’ve been livin’ in a silent storm
Baby where did we go wrong
And how do we get back?
I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that

So afraid to speak our minds
In a love gone deaf, a love gone blind

I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that
We’ve been livin’ in a silent storm
Baby where did we go wrong
And how do we get back?
I don’t wanna live like this
I don’t wanna love like that
5. A Heart That Can't Be Had
A Heart That Can't Be Had

By Steve Seskin & Allen Shamblin

Once again love’s left me all alone
And I’m all worn out over wondering why
Now I’ve hit rock bottom
A few times before
But somehow I always bounce back
It’s the first time I’m thinkin’
It’s the last time that I’m gonna try

The pain will subside
And the tears in these eyes will be gone
And I know I ain’t gonna die
From feelin’ this bad
What scares me the most
Is I’m dangerously close
To havin’ a heart that can’t be had

Now deep inside
I still believe in love
But each time it fades
I build one more wall
It’s getting harder to give
That part of myself
I’m trying so hard to protect
And lately I’m thinkin’
Why should I give it at all

The pain will subside
And the tears in these eyes will be gone
And I know I ain’t gonna die
From feelin’ this bad
What scares me the most
Is I’m dangerously close
To havin’ a heart that can’t be had
6. Break Down the Barriers
Break Down the Barriers

By Steve Seskin & Janet McLaughlin

The river runs wild and deep
And the ocean is wider than the eye can see
Still we find a way to get across
And the first to try pay the cost

If we stay on one side of the pendulum
We just might miss the value of a different drum
Our learning should never end
And once we learn how to bend we can

Break down the barriers
Break down the barriers
Between young and old
Rich and poor
Black and white

We can send a man to the moon
We can save our earth from dyin’ way too soon
We can ill afford to pay the price
Of any loss of precious life, we’ve gotta

Break down the barriers
Break down the barriers
Between truth and lies
Strong and weak
Love and hate, we’ve gotta
Break down the barriers
7. Solid Ground
Solid Ground

By Steve Seskin & Janet McLaughlin

Sometimes I wonder if it shows
How deep and true my love for you goes
There’s enough for a thousand lifetimes
A stronger love you won’t find
And I wanna make sure that you know

When you feel like a ship that’s been lost at sea
And the locks have been changed and you don’t have the key
When your whole world is spinnin’ ‘round
And you don’t dare move ‘cause you might fall down
Baby I’ll be your solid ground

I know I can always count on you
So many hard times you have seen me through
You’ve been my rainy day sunshine
A stronger love I won’t find
I would do anything for you

When you feel like a ship that’s been lost at sea
And the locks have been changed and you don’t have the key
When your whole world is spinnin’ ‘round
And you don’t dare move ‘cause you might fall down
Baby I’ll be your solid ground

When you feel like a ship that’s been lost at sea
And the locks have been changed and you don’t have the key
When your whole world is spinnin’ ‘round
And you don’t dare move ‘cause you might fall down
Baby I’ll be your solid ground
8. Baby Boy
Baby Boy

By Steve Seskin

Words can’t ever say how much I miss you
When I go away
All I wanna do is hug and kiss you

You’re my baby boy
You’re my baby boy

And I wanna watch you grow forever
I’m gonna try to be
The best dad ever

You’re my baby boy
You’re my baby boy

I’ll stand beside you through the hardest times
And I’ll try to be your eyes when you’re feelin’ blind
I’m gonna love you 'til the sea goes dry

You’re my baby boy
You’re my baby boy

Words can’t ever say how much I miss you
When I go away
All I wanna do is hug and kiss you

You’re my baby boy
You’re my baby boy
9. Rope of Sand
Rope of Sand

By Steve Seskin & Rachel Gladstone

Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words can sting
You know one more go around
Won’t change a thing
It’s the fear of facing a lonely road
That keeps us here

Hungry eyes can hypnotize me
Even now
Feeling’s gone but longing lingers
On somehow
Still we know we’re watchin’ the dreams we had
Disappear

Is there still one shred of hope
That we can hold on to
Is there still some reason we should believe?
Must we admit to each other
We’ve done all we can
And let go of this rope of sand?

I still see you standin’ on that
Busy street
I remember hopin’ that our
Eyes would meet
We had love like nothin’ I’d ever known
Before

Years went by and we both tried
To cope with change
Time was passing by us like a
Passing train
We woke up one morning and said,
There must be more

Is there still one shred of hope
That we can hold on to
Is there still some reason we should believe?
Must we admit to each other
We’ve done all we can
And let go of this rope of sand
Let go of this rope of sand
Let go of this rope of sand

Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words can sting (rope of sand)
You know one more go around
Won’t change a thing
10. Bigger Hammer
Bigger Hammer

By Steve Seskin & Andre Pessis

A child cries in the night
He’s much too little to put up a fight
Another victim of a heavy hand
His daddy always tells him
It’s for his own good

Sometimes he goes too far
He doesn’t notice the invisible scars
Ask him to defend his discipline
He’ll say he’s only doin’
What was done to him

You don’t need a bigger hammer
To get the job done
It’s common knowledge where I come from
The strongest bond will break if you hit too hard
Nothing beats the power
Of a gentle touch
Every time that push comes to shove
A bigger hammer’s no match for a little love

Life was hard in my younger days
House full of children for my parents to raise
And I was always the wildest one
Time after time my daddy
Had to put his foot down

He was strong and he was firm
But there was tenderness in every lesson I learned
He did what he could to make a boy a man
But he did it with his heart
Instead of with his hands

You don’t need a bigger hammer
To get the job done
It’s common knowledge where I come from
The strongest bond will break if you hit too hard
Nothing beats the power
Of a gentle touch
Every time that push comes to shove
A bigger hammer’s no match for a little love

I tell ya, nothing beats the power
Of a gentle touch
Every time that push comes to shove
A bigger hammer’s no match for a little love
11. Life Must Go On
Life Must Go On

By Steve Seskin & Nancy Montgomery

I’ve been sittin’ on this mountain all alone
Tryin’ to figure out how it all went wrong
Running like a fool against the winds of change
I’ve been wishing on a star to see me through
Still believe in my heart that dreams come true
Watching the clouds roll in, waitin’ for the rain

All right, I know that it’s up to me
Which way to go
I wish I knew how it was gonna be
After the girl is gone
(After the girl is gone)
You know that in my arms
And life must go on

I’ve been drifting like a sailor on the sea
Holdin’ onto you and losin’ me
Lookin’ in the mirror my eyes just say goodbye
I’ve been lookin’ for courage at the lost and found
Tryin’ to find a way off this merry-go-round
Scared to let go
But I’ve just gotta try

All right, I know that it’s up to me
Which way to go
I wish I knew how it was gonna be
After the girl is gone
(After the girl is gone)
You know that in my arms
And life must go on

Love finds us
Love chains us
Love fades away
Still searchin’
Some reason
Why I should stay

All right, I know that it’s up to me
Which way to go
I wish I knew how it was gonna be
After the girl is gone
(After the girl is gone)
You know that in my arms
And life must go on
12. Where the Fire Burns
Where the Fire Burns

By Steve Seskin

I decided a long time ago
To live on the edge
Not to worry ‘bout yesterday
Or what lives ahead
Not to waste a single moment of this precious life
To always dance on the sharp side of the knife

I gotta be where the fire burns
Right in the middle of the flames
I gotta live every day like I’m livin’ my last day
Give me the chance to risk it all
At the point of no return
I’ve gotta be where the
I’ve gotta be where the fire burns

I’ve always wanted to share my life
With someone like you
You strike me as the kind of woman
Who thinks like I do
But before we take it one step further
Before we’re in too deep
I really need to know if you think
You can stand the heat

I gotta be where the fire burns
Right in the middle of the flames
I gotta live every day like I’m livin’ my last day
Give me the chance to risk it all
At the point of no return
I’ve gotta be where the
I’ve gotta be where the fire burns

Give me the chance to risk it all
At the point of no return
I’ve gotta be where the
I’ve gotta be where the fire burns
I’ve gotta be where the
I’ve gotta be where the fire burns
13. Everybody Wins
Everybody Wins

By Steve Seskin & Ellen Seskin

Railene was fifteen when her baby came
She knew if she raised him they’d both lose
But she couldn’t let him just anywhere
She had to be the one to choose

My wife and I wanted to have a child
But we couldn’t do it on our own
We needed help from someone like Railene
To bring a baby to our home, she said

I give him to you
And I give you to him
And it feels good to have a choice
Where everybody wins

David turned three years old a week ago
Three of the best years of my life
With each thing I teach him I learn so much more
Nothing has ever felt this right

We try to see Railene from time to time
She’s part of our family too
Can’t wait to tell David how he came to us
How she made all our dreams come true when she said

I give him to you
And I give you to him
And it feels good to have a choice
Where everybody wins

I give him to you
And I give you to him
And it feels good to have a choice
Where everybody wins
Everybody wins
14. Alone Too Long
Alone Too Long

By Steve Seskin & Mark D. Sanders

Lost in the desert his mouth is bone dry
If he don’t drink soon he’s bound to die
He sees an oasis ‘cross the shimmerin’ sand
He crawls right up to it and cups his hands

The water lay stagnant, the smell’s in the air
It’s liable to kill him but he doesn’t care

A man thirsting for love
Sings the very same song
He proceeds without caution
‘Cause he’s been alone too long

Alone too long has left me with a burnin’ desire
To throw my heart into any old fire
God grant me the strength to hold out
For a love that’s strong
Don’t let me give in
To bein’ alone too long

I’m tempted by time to surrender the dream
Of findin’ the one that was meant for me
But to my way of thinkin’, the worst thing you can do
Is to spend any time on a love that’s not true

Alone too long has left me with a burnin’ desire
To throw my heart into any old fire
God grant me the strength to hold out
For a love that’s strong
Don’t let me give in
To bein’ alone too long
Don’t let me give in
To bein’ alone too long
15. If You've Got Love
If You've Got Love

By Steve Seskin and Mark D. Sanders

If you’ve got faith and you believe in what you’re livin’ for
You can stand your ground when the devil’s at your door
And a little hope can help you when the road is gettin’ rough
But there’s nothin’ quite like like if you’ve got love

If you’ve got love you can move a mountain
A little bit further down the line
You can do it all at once or one rock at a time
You can turn an ordinary picture
Into a priceless work of art
That’s what you can do if you’ve got love in your heart

Now there’s nothing like a real good friend to tell your troubles to
But there’s just so much a real good friend can do
‘Cause it takes another’s touch to chase the darkest blues away

If you’ve got love you’ve got what it takes
If you’ve got love you can move a mountain
A little bit further down the line
You can do it all at once or one rock at a time
You can turn an ordinary picture
Into a priceless work of art
That’s what you can do if you’ve got love in your heart
A great collections of songs, two of which, "Life's A Dance," and "If You've Got Love," went to number one for country artist John Michael Montgomery.
